This study focused on the aquatic insect orders that serve as biological indicators. Ephemeroptera, Plecoptera, Trichoptera, Coleoptera, and Odonata were studied with their relationships to physical, chemical, hydrological morphological variables in 14 streams three Croatian mountains: Papuk, Medvednica Psunj. From 675 samples collected dominant sediment microhabitats (e.g., macrolithal mesolithal) each stream, we identified 130 macroinvertebrate taxa. The most abundant group was...
Different types of water bodies in lowland river floodplains represent vital biodiversity havens and encompass diverse microhabitats, which are essential for structuring different macroinvertebrate communities. Chironomidae larvae (Diptera) an inseparable part these communities, with their high richness abundance. In three body within the Danube floodplain Kopački Rit Croatia, over course four sampling campaigns, we recorded 51 chironomid taxa periphyton on macrophytes, twigs, glass slides....
The family of non-biting midges (Diptera, Chironomidae) represent one the most common and abundant group in freshwaters, inhabiting a wide variety habitats ecological niches. Although there is long tradition limnological research Croatia, to date no extensive species list has been made for this insect family. Thus, we summarized results our reviewed published data on chironomid fauna Croatia various freshwater habitat types, including extreme ones, such as caves, peatbogs or marine littoral....
Abstract Continental salt marshes represent specific inland saltwater bodies with unique ecological characteristics a fact that is mirrored by flora and fauna. However, there still limited data on their biota in Serbia, which especially true for aquatic macroinvertebrates, including chironomids (Diptera: Chironomidae). Here we investigated diversity seasonal variations of chironomid community six distributed the northern southern part Serbia. We recorded total 25 species, two are new Serbian...
When studying the well-being and fitness of ichthyofauna in a specific area, vital information comes from length–weight relationships (LWRs) condition factor analyses calculations. Data were collected 2015 to 2019 an area important for fish shelter, feeding, spawning. Twenty four species belonging 10 different families identified total 16,895 caught individuals, with most abundant being Blicca bjoerkna. The calculation LWRs was possible 19 species, (R2 = 0.7049–0.9998 (p < 0.05)), values...

Lowland floodplains are complex ecosystems comprised of standing and flowing waters interacting with terrestrial habitats, the main force creating, shaping influencing, both habitats biotic communities, is a hydrological regime water supply from parent river. In areas not much altered by anthropogenic influence, Danube creates such floodplain areas, temporary shallow bodies within represent biodiversity important habitats. Kopački Rit Nature Park in Croatia, diversity based on Chironomidae...
According to the first Croatian check-list (Čerba et al. 2020), a total of 239 Chironomidae species has so far been recorded from country. In present paper we report finding two new taxa mountain stream Šumetlica, eastern Croatia, namely Boreoheptagyia legeri (Goetghebuer, 1933) and Diamesa cf. insignipes Kieffer, 1908. Šumetlica in Psunj Mountain is about 27 km long that rises near highest peak this area, Brezovo Polje. Macroinvertebrate samples were collected at 415 m a.s.l. June 2020 May...
The species Nubensia nubens (Edwards, 1929) from the dipteran family Chironomidae has been recorded for first time in Croatian chironomid fauna. It was found littoral of oligotrophic Lake Vrana on island Cres. The is known Italy, Albania and Republic Northern Macedonia as well western Europe, Czech Pyrenees.Lake currently only habitat this Croatia.
