The surface of untreated wool has been investigated using x-ray photoelectron spec troscopy (XPS) and static secondary ion mass spectrometry (SSIMS). is covered in a thin layer lipid estimated to be approximately 0.9 nm thick. Mass spectral peaks are consistent with the presence saturated C 20 , 21 hydroxylated fatty acids, presumably bound as esters. This can partially, but not completely, removed by treatment potassium tert-butoxide tert-butanol or hydroxide, reagents that cause oxidation...

The distribution of dopamine (DA)-containing cell bodies, fibers, and terminals in the brain spinal cord Lampetra fluviatilis was investigated by immunohistochemical means. In order to distinguish dopaminergic neurons from those using other catecholamines as primary neurotransmitter, dopamine-immunoreactive structures compared that labelled with antibodies directed against enzymes tyrosine hydroxylase (TH), aromatic L-amino acid decarboxylase (AADC), β-hydroxylase (DBH),...

Abstract X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy sensitivity factors for elements from lithium to zinc have been determined experimentally using standard compounds. These are found differ quite considerably those theoretically calculated Scofield's photoelectric cross‐sections, but in good agreement with other derived databases the literature. It is concluded that cross‐sections error and a correction factor must be employed if they used calculation of XPS factors.

The penicillin acylase gene (pac) from Escherichia coli ATCC 11105 was cloned into pUC 9 and the resulting vector (pUPA-9), when transformed E.coli strain 5K, allowed constitutive overproduction of mature grown at 28°C. enzyme ws purified periplasmic fraction pUPA-9 by hydrophobic interaction chromatography anion exchange. Crystals were in batch using polyethylene glycol 8000 as a precipitant. crystals (space group P1) diffracted to beyond 2.3 Å.

The spherical proportional counter is a large volume gaseous detector which finds application in several fields, including direct Dark Matter searches. When the filled with nitrogen it becomes an effective neutron spectrometer thanks to 14N(n,α)11B and 14N(n,p)14C reactions. Nitrogen, however, challenging operating gas for counters requires high electric field strength pressure ratio. Benefiting from latest advances instrumentation simulation techniques, we report first measurements at...

The dorsal lateral geniculate nucleus (GLd) of the turtle Emys orbicularis has been analyzed with axonal tracing methods and immunocytochemical techniques for glutamate (GLU) gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA), in combination a quantitative study morphologic characteristics, distribution, synaptology retinofugal corticofugal terminals. Ultrastructural observations show that vast majority retinal terminals (Rtr) have clear, rounded synaptic vesicles account 16% all profiles containing (PCSV)....

Abstract The afferent and efferent cortical projections of the dorsal lateral geniculate nucleus (GLD) adult specimens turtle Emys orbicularis were investigated after intraocular or intracortical injections horseradish peroxidase (HRP), distribution gamma aminobutyric acid (GABA) immunoreactivity in was carried out by immunocytochemical techniques, both techniques being combined with light electron microscopy. In addition, some prepared for double‐labeling HRP GABA immunoreactivity,...
