The magnetocaloric effect and thermal conductivity of two gadolinium hydroxides, Gd(OH)<sub>3</sub> (<bold>1</bold>) Gd<sub>2</sub>O(OH)<sub>4</sub>(H<sub>2</sub>O)<sub>2</sub> (<bold>2</bold>), were investigated, respectively, revealing that <bold>1</bold> is the most promising candidate for an ultra-low temperature magnetic refrigeration material.
