Studies on environmental pollution in Mexican freshwater ecosystems by means of fish histopathology are extremely scarce. In that view, this research analyzed the gonad four teleost species from a hyper-eutrophicated fragmented urban lagoon, order to determine possible harmful effects water pollutants their reproductive fitness.Gonads were processed histological conventional techniques. The gonadal alterations detected both, clupeid Dorosoma petenense and cichlid Thorichthys meeki expose need...

Non-native South American suckermouth armored catfishes brackish waters of the genus Pterygoplichthys are reported in Chumpan River Southeastern Mexico. The likely dispersed from populations drainage nearby coastal rivers where they were already established. These catfish tolerate estuarine conditions and probably Grijalva-Usumacinta basin through Laguna de Terminos then ultimately entered system. Embryos, larvae, and juveniles of the streaked mojarra Eugerres lineatus are described illustrated from a series laboratory specimens. The description was based on morphometry, pigmentation pattern, squamation sequence, osteological development. eggs were obtained by stripping ripe adults captured in Bahía de La Paz, Baja California Sur, México. Eggs (cleavage egg embryo phases) had mean diameter 0.69 mm with an oil globule 0.19 diameter. Eleutheroembryos 1.05 notochordal length (NL) at...

Water quality indicators have been tied to natural or man-made surface hydraulic connection (SHC) conditions. Among these, temporally connected lakes (TCL) are intermediates between isolated (IL) and permanently (PCL). Therefore, the aim of this study is answer if water can estimate possible overlap two opposed conditions SHC (IL PCL) with intermediate one in similar modifications level regulation at basin level. nine variables sampled six three mentioned, chlorophyll a (Chl-a), Secchi disk...

The intake of microplastics by freshwater fishes has been scarcely studied, and it is not yet clear whether the amount particles these vertebrates ingest associated with their feeding strategies. Hence, this study focused on suckermouth armored catfish ( Pterygoplichthys spp.) under hypothesis that, due to its detritivorous habits demersal distribution, may show evidence presence in sediments a lake located Metropolitan Area Villahermosa.
