The Pacific crevalle jack (Caranx caninus) is an important resource for small-scale fisheries in the Eastern Tropical Pacific. We identified most components of diet C. caninus from 2016 to 2018 Bahía de Acapulco, Mexico and determined its feeding strategy trophic level. In addition, we evaluated differences based on size climatic season. A total 549 stomachs were analysed, which 80.8% contained food 19.2% empty. 47 prey taxa classified into three large taxonomic groups: fish, crustaceans...
Temporal variation in the helminth parasite communities of Pacific fat sleeper, Dormitator latifrons, from Tres Palos Lagoon, Guerrero, Mexico, was studied at component community and infracommunity levels. In total, 185 host specimens were collected between April 2000 March 2001. Eight species identified: Clinostomum complanatum, Echinochasmus leopoldinae, Ascocotyle (Phagicola) longa, Pseudoacanthostomum panamense, Saccocoelioides sp., Parvitaenia cochlearii, Neoechinorhynchus golvani,...
Abstract In the tropics, variations in structure and species composition of marine fish parasite communities over several years have received limited attention. Changes water temperature tropics are not as extreme temperate climes, processes that generate these yet unclear. The populations Parapsettus panamensis from four locations on south‐central Pacific coast Mexico were quantified analyzed. Four hundred forty‐six collected a 6‐year period (2012; 2013; 2016a,b; 2017). Twenty‐three...
In this study, the chicken eggshell (ES) particle size was evaluated in relation to neutralization rate (γ) of acid mine drainage (AMD) under stirring conditions. Four treatments were carried out using three different sizes (<63, 250−500, and 1,410−2,000 μm). T1−T3, pH increase (ΔpH) monitored every 5 min ES added until a ~6.0 reached γ calculated min. T4, ΔpH measured 8 hours for 48 hours, <63 μm used. At end each treatment, redox potential (Eh), SO42– removal efficiency (ηSO42–),...
A total of 33 species metazoan parasites were identified (31 helminth and 2 crustaceans) from 10 fish (n = 1,030) collected Coyuca Lagoon, Guerrero, Mexico, between May 2001 February 2003. Digeneans (7 adults 11 larvae) dominated the parasite fauna. The most widespread were: Digenea- Pseudoacanthostomum panamense, Diplostomum (Austrodiplostomum) compactum, Clinostomum complanatum; Nematoda- Contracaecum sp.; Branchiura- Argulus Copepoda- Ergasilus sp. Species composition fauna exhibited a...
Acapulco, offers for international tourism a variety of mollusks that are delightful to the palate and source economic revenue its residents; however there no studies on species consumed. Furthermore, data from State agencies responsible registration these products unclear. This work is aimed develop an inventory Gastropoda, Bivalvia Polyplacophora marketed as food, gain knowledge native Acapulco introduced ones. The places sell shellfish were interviewed 2008 2011 in order determine...
Abstract Species richness and similarity in metazoan parasite communities of fishes can be influenced by several biotic (age, body size, vagility, feeding social behavior, among others), local abiotic (temperature, salinity, etc.) factors. The three species Oligoplites , marine from the Pacific coast Mexico, were quantified analyzed. Four hundred sixty‐eight leatherjackets ( O. altus n =94; saurus =260; O . refulgens n= 114) collected February 2016 to June 2017 five locations. Twenty‐eight...
Chitons are marine mollusks morphologically composed of a large muscular foot which allows them to conform irregular surfaces.Few species as Chiton articulatus used for human consumption.During April, July and December 2009, 2010 2011, an evaluation was conducted on C. at Acapulco, Mexico.Number, size weight individuals caught in fishing were recorded.Simultaneously, during October February April 2010, field work carried 4 locations record the amount, biometric analysis total length versus...
Neoechinorhynchus brentnickoli n. sp. is described from specimens of Dormitator latifrons (Pacific fat sleeper) collected 3 localities along the Pacific Coast México: Tres Palos Lagoon (Guerrero State), Bahía de Chamela (Jalisco and Mazatlán (Sinaloa México. Of members genus known Mexican fish, new species more similar to golvani Salgado-Maldonado, 1978, than roseus or chimalapasensis Caspeta-Mandujano, Martínez-Ramírez, 2010. can be distinguished N. in being longer having dimorphism between...
Parasite communities in Caranx sexfasciatus were characterized and analyzed to determine any interannual variations structure and/or species composition. In total, 422 C. collected from Acapulco Bay, Mexico, between May 2016 March 2019. Thirty-two taxa of metazoan parasites identified: five Monogenea, thirteen Digenea, one Acanthocephala, Cestoda, three Nematoda, seven Copepoda, two Isopoda. Monogeneans the most frequent abundant parasite all sampling years. richness at component community...
Dormitator is among the most important fish genera in Mexican Pacific coastal lagoon systems. In Tres Palos Lagoon, Fat Sleeper latifrons one of significant species based on catch volume, although it only consumed locally. Very little information exists this parasitofauna. Composition and temporal variation metazoan parasite community structure from Lagoon (99°47' W, 16°48' N), Guerrero, Mexico, were determined using seasonal samples taken between April 2000 June 2002. Ten (55 817...

Parasites are known to be useful as biological tags in distinguishing fish stocks, but the parasite fauna method has received limited use fisheries of Mexico. Parasite composition and their infection levels were quantified for Caranx caballus populations at 3 locations on south central Pacific coast Three hundred eighty-eight collected examined between December 2009 February2012. Twenty-four species parasites identified: 2 monogeneans, 6 digeneans, 1 cestode, 5 nematodes, 8 copepods,...
A total of 366 individuals Lutjanus argentiventris (Peters, 1869) were collected over a 5-yr period (October 2018 to June 2022) from Acapulco Bay, Mexico. Parasite communities in quantified and analyzed determine the main factors that generate changes species richness and/or composition time. The digeneans copepods best-represented parasite groups. characterized by high numerical dominance ectoparasites, mainly isopod larvae. Species at component community level (9-23 species) was similar...
Biotic or abiotic factors responsible for temporal spatial variation in metazoan parasite communities of the green jack Caranx caballus were studied over a nine-year period using samples collected at locations along south-central Pacific coast Mexico. A total 708 fish from six between December 2009 and October 2017. Thirty-two species identified: three Monogenea, nine Digenea, two Cestoda, five Nematoda, eight Copepoda, Isopoda. At component community level, richness varied significantly...
