In this study, novel urethane-dimethacrylate monomers were synthesized from 1,3-bis(1-isocyanato-1-methylethyl)benzene (MEBDI) and oligoethylene glycols monomethacrylates, containing one to three oxyethylene groups. They can potentially be utilized as matrices in dental restorative materials. The obtained used prepare four new formulations. Two of them solely composed the MEBDI-based monomers. a second pair, monomer based on triethylene glycol monomethacrylate, 20 wt.%, was replaced with...
A significant problem related to the functioning of resin-based composites for dental fillings is secondary or recurrent caries, which reason need repeated treatment. The cross-linked quaternary ammonium polyethylenimine nanoparticles (QA-PEI-NPs) have been shown be a promising antibacterial agent against different bacteria, including cariogenic ones. However, little known about properties dimethacrylate polymer-based enriched with QA-PEI-NPs. This research was carried out on experimental...
In this study, two novel quaternary ammonium urethane-dimethacrylates (QAUDMAs) were designed for potential use as comonomers in antibacterial dental composite restorative materials. QAUDMAs synthesized via the reaction of 1,3-bis(1-isocyanato-1-methylethyl)benzene with 2-(methacryloyloxy)ethyl-2-decylhydroxyethylmethylammonium bromide (QA10+TMXDI) and 2-(methacryloyloxy)ethyl-2-dodecylhydroxyethylmethylammonium (QA12+TMXDI). Their compositions common dimethacrylates comprising QAUDMA 20...
The growing scale of secondary caries and occurrence antibiotic-resistant bacterial strains require the development antibacterial dental composites. It can be achieved by chemical introduction quaternary ammonium dimethacrylates into In this study, physicochemical properties six novel copolymers consisting 60 wt. % urethane-dimethacrylate analogues (QAUDMA) 40 triethylene glycol dimethacrylate (TEGDMA) were investigated. Uncured compositions had suitable refractive index (RI), density (dm),...
Six novel urethane-dimethacrylate analogues (QAUDMAs) were synthesized and characterized. They consisted of the 2,4,4,-trimethylhexamethylene diisocyanate (TMDI) core two methacrylate-terminated wings containing quaternary ammonium groups substituted with alkyl chains 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, or 18 carbon atoms. QAUDMAs, due to presence groups, may have possible antibacterial effects. Since they showed satisfactory physicochemical properties, will be subjected further research towards development...
The use of dental composites based on dimethacrylates that have quaternary ammonium groups is a promising solution in the field antibacterial restorative materials. This study aimed to investigate mechanical properties and behaviors aqueous environments series six copolymers (QA:TEG) comprising 60 wt.% urethane-dimethacrylate (QAUDMA) 40 triethylene glycol dimethacrylate (TEGDMA); these are analogous common copolymer (BG:TEG), which comprises bisphenol A glycerolate (Bis-GMA) TEGDMA....
This study aimed to elucidate the physicochemical properties of copolymers comprising 40 wt.% bisphenol A glycerolate dimethacrylate (Bis-GMA), quaternary ammonium urethane-dimethacrylate analogues (QAUDMA-m, where m corresponds number carbon atoms in N-alkyl substituent), and 20 triethylene glycol (TEGDMA) (BG:QAm:TEGs). The BG:QAm:TEG liquid monomer compositions reference (40 Bis-GMA, (UDMA), TEGDMA (BG:UD:TEG) 60 (BG:TEG)) were characterized terms their refractive index (RI) glass...
Dental caries are treated using dental composite restorative materials (DCRM). However, commercial DCRMs lack antibacterial activity. This research aimed to analyze the in vitro activity of a series copolymers consisting urethane–dimethacrylate monomer (UDMA), bisphenol A glycerolate dimethacrylate (Bis-GMA), triethylene glycol (TEGDMA) and with two quaternary ammonium groups 1,3-bis(1-isocyanate-1-methylethyl)benzene core (QAn+TMXDI, where n = 8, 10, or 12 is number carbon atoms N-alkyl...
Modification of dental monomer compositions with antimicrobial agents must not cause deterioration the structure, physicochemical, or mechanical properties resulting polymers. In this study, 0.5, 1, and 2 wt.% quaternary ammonium polyethylenimine nanoparticles (QA-PEI-NPs) were obtained admixed a Bis-GMA/TEGDMA (60:40) composition. Formulations then photocured tested for their degree conversion (DC), polymerization shrinkage (S), glass transition temperature (Tg), water sorption (WS),...
Due to the questionable durability of dental restorations, there is a need increase lifetime composite restoration. The present study used diethylene glycol monomethacrylate/4,4′-methylenebis(cyclohexyl isocyanate) (DEGMMA/CHMDI), monomethacrylate/isophorone diisocyanate (DEGMMA/IPDI) monomers, and bis(2,6-diisopropylphenyl)carbodiimide (CHINOX SA-1) as modifiers polymer matrix (40 wt% urethane dimethacrylate (UDMA), 40 bisphenol A ethoxylateddimethacrylate (bis-EMA), 20 triethyleneglycol...
Using dental composite restorative materials with a copolymeric matrix chemically modified towards bioactive properties can help fight secondary caries. In this study, copolymers of 40 wt.% bisphenol A glycerolate dimethacrylate, quaternary ammonium urethane-dimethacrylates (QAUDMA-m, where m represents 8, 10, 12, 14, 16 and 18 carbon atoms in the N-alkyl substituent), 20 triethylene glycol dimethacrylate (BG:QAm:TEGs) were tested for (i) cytotoxicity on L929 mouse fibroblast cell line; (ii)...
In this work, the relationship between degree of conversion (DC) in Bis-GMA/TEGDMA polymer networks, determined by two methods—Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (DCIR) and polymerization shrinkage (DCS)—was studied. The DCIR was calculated using internal standard method, whereas DCS measuring differences monomer densities, resulting shrinkage. Both methods revealed same trend DC changes with alterations ratio. However, values were lower, comparison to on average 18%.
Composite restorative materials with dimethacrylathe matrices are commonly used as dental fillings. They have good usable properties; however, they lack antibacterial activity. may also promote secondary caries. A solution to that problem could be the application of monomers microbiologically active quaternary ammonium groups. This research aimed at synthesis a new urethane-dimethacrylate monomer 1,3-bis(2-isocyanatopropan-2-yl)benzene (TMXDI) core, well two arms group decyl subsistent. The...
The polymerization of methacrylate compositions used in bone cement is often accompanied by a strong exothermic effect. polymerizing mass heats up to very high temperatures at the application site, irritating adjacent tissues and even cell death. On other hand, composition should have optimal curing time, which be long enough allow for proper preparation short prevent leaking out restoration place. Therefore, new are being sought reduce temperature maintain sufficiently time. Our proposal...
