ABSTRACT Sexual dimorphism of the skeleton is well documented. At maturity, male typically larger and has a higher bone density than female skeleton. However, underlying mechanisms for these differences are not completely understood. In this study, we examined sexual in formation osteoclasts between cells from mice. We found that number bones was greater females. Similarly, vitro osteoclast differentiation accelerated precursor (OCP) cells. To further characterize sex osteoclasts, performed...

Osteoclasts are the sole bone-resorbing cells that play an essential role in homeostatic bone remodeling and pathogenic destruction such as inflammatory arthritis. Pharmacologically targeting osteoclasts has been a promising approach to alleviating disease, but there remains room for improvement mitigating drug side effects enhancing cell specificity. Recently, we demonstrated crucial of MYC its downstream effectors driving osteoclast differentiation. Despite these advances, upstream...

International medical graduates (IMGs) are physicians who did not attend school in the USA or Canada. IMGs comprise nearly one-quarter of physician workforce and play a vital role health care. Here, we aimed to identify prevalence integrated programs evaluate factors that influence their success residency match.

Distal radius fractures (DRFs) are common upper extremity and often require surgical fixation when they intraarticular. Preoperative computed tomography (CT) has emerged as a planning tool to evaluate intraarticular DRFs. Although CT affords additional details, patients receive higher radiation doses than standard radiographs. We aim develop low-dose (LDCT) protocol, relative the institutional standard-dose wrist for DRFs although providing adequate detail decision-making.

Abstract Background Applying into plastic surgery (PS) is competitive. Lacking a home residency program (HRP) another barrier. Our goal to characterize challenges faced by PS applicants without HRPs and identify solutions. Methods Surveys were designed for current integrated residents in the 2022 Match HRPs. distributed electronically. Only U.S. allopathic graduate responses included. Results Of 182 individuals surveyed, 74 responded (39%, 33 residents, 41 applicants). Sixty-six percent...

Osteoclasts are bone-resorbing cells that play an essential role in homeostatic bone remodeling and pathological erosion. Macrophage colony stimulating factor (M-CSF) is abundant rheumatoid arthritis (RA). However, the of M-CSF arthritic erosion not completely understood. Here, we show can promote osteoclastogenesis by triggering proteolysis c-FMS, a receptor for M-CSF, leading to generation FMS intracellular domain (FICD) fragments. Increased levels FICD fragments positively regulated but...

Given the recent change in Step 1 grading, medical students are faced with decisions surrounding optimal examination order and timing. There is a current lack of guidance outside commonly used United States Medical Licensing Examination study blogs. The aim this was to characterize practices understand factors influencing student preference. To gather data, we 24-item survey electronically distributed it through three separate email requests students. Participants included (MS1-4) attending...

Social media can be a powerful tool for plastic surgery training programs. Previous studies have shown the value social may in integrated residency program recruitment and reputation. These findings generalize to fellowship programs, but this space has not been comprehensively studied date. Therefore, study aims characterize programs' usage identify subsequent opportunities leadership generate engagement.

Xenopus laevis oocytes are commonly used in many fundamental biological studies. One of the major limitations X. is their short storage lifespan with most defolliculated physically deteriorating 10 days or less. Herein, we identified a 3D Cultrex-based media that incorporates extracellular membrane-based hydrogels to maintain oocyte integrity. Under these treatments, increased more than 20 compared standard conditions. The treatment preserved membrane integrity and did not interfere mRNA-...

The oocytes from Xenopus laevis are well known for their polarity, presenting a distinct animal and vegetal pole. Other heterogeneities less known. To study the heterogeneity of oocyte, we expressed eGFP analyzed protein distribution with fluorescence lifetime microscopy. pole exhibited higher levels fluorescence, than However, lifetimes between two areas were indistinguishable, suggesting similar environments. Background: Social media utilization in plastic surgery training has been growing exponentially since 2010.
