The development and use of a new scale, the Epworth sleepiness scale (ESS), is described. This simple, self-administered questionnaire which shown to provide measurement subject's general level daytime sleepiness. One hundred eighty adults answered ESS, including 30 normal men women as controls 150 patients with range sleep disorders. They rated chances that they would doze off or fall asleep when in eight different situations commonly encountered daily life. Total ESS scores significantly...

Excessive daytime sleepiness (EDS) is an important symptom that needs to be quantified, but there confusion over the best way do this. Three of most commonly used tests: multiple sleep latency test (MSLT), maintenance wakefulness (MWT) and Epworth scale (ESS) give results are significantly correlated in a statistical sense, not closely related. The purpose this investigation was help clarify problem. Previously published data from several investigations were calculate reference range normal...

In present study it was given to 93 subjects four different groups: 16 surgical inpatients, 21 medical 32 psychiatric inpatients (in general unit), 24 normal volunteers. Test retest reliability correlations have derived using nonparametric correlation coefficient (Kendall's tau). Each items...

Abnormal paroxysmal events in sleep may be parasomnias or epileptic seizures. In nocturnal frontal lobe epilepsy (NFLE), the unusual seizure features often lead to diagnostic confusion with nonepileptic parasomnias; video-electroencephalography monitoring is usually required make diagnosis. To examine reliability of clinical history diagnosing NFLE, using Frontal Lobe Epilepsy and Parasomnias (FLEP) scale. The FLEP scale, comprising specific questions reflecting NFLE parasomnias, was developed...

A series of 18 visual analogue scales was used to report the subjective feelings 38 healthy subjects on 732 occasions during experiments concerned with quality sleep. Factor analysis scores from these scales, both for all combined and within each four separately, yielded two factors consistently -- 'alertness' 'tranquillity'. Scores derived first factor indicated that, in laboratory setting levels immediately after waking morning were reduced, relation those before falling asleep previous night.
