Abstract In 2009, a major outbreak of aseptic meningitis was noted in Linyi city, Shandong province, China. From June to September total 2,104 cases were involved this outbreak, and 98.6% patients <16 years age. To determine the pathogen 42 cerebrospinal fluid specimens collected from tested for cell culture, 17 (40.5%) enteroviruses isolated identified as Coxsackievirus B5 (CVB5). Enterovirus environmental surveillance on sewage from the city of Jinan, Shandong Province, China, was initiated in 2008. Thirty echovirus 6 (E6) strains-1 2008 and 29 2010-were isolated identified.
