Sonora michoacanensis (Dugès, 1885), Michoacan Groundsnake (Squamata, Colubridae) is a non‑venomous snake endemic to Mexico, distributed across the Depresión del Balsas and along Pacific Coast in states of Morelos, Puebla, Guerrero, Michoacán, Colima, Jalisco. We present first record this species from State Mexico. The new fills gap known distribution S. Central increases number colubrid 23 total reptile Mexico 104.
Abstract Urbanization is a global phenomenon that involves the transformation of natural areas into urban spaces, thereby subjecting organisms to new selective pressures including wide variety pollutants and changes in intra‐ interspecific interactions. Considering projections indicate by year 2050, 65% human population will live urbanization with an upward pattern, identifying these phenotypic traits vital implementing conservation management plans for fauna. The environment may exert...
Abstract Almost all lizard families in the pleurodont clade share same XY system. This system was meticulously studied Anolis carolinensis, where it shows a highly degenerated Y chromosome and male-specific X dosage compensation mechanism. Corytophanids (casque-headed lizards) have been proposed as only family to lack In this study, we worked with extensive genomic transcriptomic data from Basiliscus vittatus, member of Corytophanidae that inhabits tropical rainforests Mexico. We confirmed...
Clutch size (CS) and relative clutch mass (RCM) are considered important features in life history descriptions of species within Squamata. Variations these two characteristics caused by both biotic abiotic factors. The present study provides the first account related to CS RCM Basiliscus vittatus Mexico a population that inhabits an open riverbed juxtapositioned tropical rainforest habitat Catemaco, Veracruz, (170 m a.s.l.). Twenty-nine gravid females were collected kept captivity under...
Non-avian reptiles, unlike mammals and birds, have undergone numerous sex determination changes. Casque-Headed Lizards replaced the ancestral XY system shared across pleurodonts with a new pair of chromosomes. However, evolutionary forces that triggered this transition remained unclear. An interesting hypothesis suggests species intermediate states, chromosomes but also thermal-induced reversal at specific incubation temperatures, could be more susceptible to turnovers. We contrasted...
ABSTRACT Non-avian reptiles, unlike mammals and birds, have undergone numerous sex determination turnovers. For example, casque-headed lizards replaced the ancestral XY system shared across pleurodonts with a new pair of chromosomes. However, evolutionary forces that triggered this transition remained unclear. An interesting hypothesis suggests species intermediate states, chromosomes but also thermal-induced reversal at specific incubation temperatures, could be more susceptible to We...
Blood-squirting from ocular sinuses is a unique defensive behavior widespread in horned lizards. During an ecological study the state of Mexico, we captured 24 males and 23 females Phrynosoma orbiculare, which three squirted blood during gentle handling. Two individuals were juvenile size, suggesting, with data large adults, that P. orbiculare strategy may be employed throughout life.
