Extrapyramidal signs frequently accompany Alzheimer's disease (AD), but the pathological substrate remains unknown. Clinical and postmortem information from patients with AD, Parkinson's disease, or progressive supranuclear palsy control subjects seen at a large tertiary medical center between 1989 1994 was examined. AD who had taken neuroleptics brains that also contained Lewy bodies were excluded. The presence of extrapyramidal determined using Unified Disease Rating Scale. Sections basal...
Despite abundant evidence in the surgical and critical care literature demonstrating inferior outcomes transfused patients, liberal use of blood transfusion, particularly after initial unit, remains common vascular surgery. We therefore sought to investigate incremental risk each additional unit intraoperatively for patients undergoing elective open repair abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) with regards postoperative mortality complications.
Introduction: Venous thromboembolism (VTE) is a major cause of morbidity and mortality in the United States. Despite medical advances diagnostics thromboprophylaxis, incidence VTE has not substantially decreased over time. Furthermore, many patients are diagnosed with without an identifiable cause. Objectives: We sought to investigate prevalence idiopathic risk factors associated this diagnosis. Methods: Patients deep vein thrombosis (DVT) or pulmonary embolism (PE) were enrolled into...
