In industry, enzymes are often immobilized to generate more stable enzyme preparations that easier store, handle, and recycle for repetitive use. Traditionally, bound inorganic carrier materials, which requires case-to-case optimization incurs additional labor costs. Therefore, with the advent of rational protein design strategies as part bottom-up synthetic biology approaches, numerous immobilization methods have been developed enable one-step production onto biogenic materials directly...

Terpenoids constitute one of the largest and most diverse groups within class secondary metabolites, comprising over 80,000 compounds. They not only exhibit important functions in plant physiology but also have commercial potential biotechnological, pharmaceutical, agricultural sectors due to their promising properties, including various bioactivities against pathogens, inflammations, cancer. In this work, we therefore aimed implement sesquiterpenoid pathway leading β-caryophyllene...

Photolabile protecting groups play a significant role in controlling biological functions and cellular processes living cells tissues, as light offers high spatiotemporal control, is non-invasive well easily tuneable. In the recent past, photo-responsive inducer molecules such 6-nitropiperonyl-caged IPTG (NP-cIPTG) have been used optochemical tools for Lac repressor-controlled microbial expression systems. To further expand applicability of versatile on-switch, we investigated whether...

Photocaged inducer molecules, especially photocaged isopropyl-β-d-1-thiogalactopyranoside (cIPTG), are well-established optochemical tools for light-regulated gene expression and have been intensively applied in Escherichia coli other bacteria including Corynebacterium glutamicum, Pseudomonas putida or Bacillus subtilis. In this study, we aimed to implement a light-mediated on-switch target the facultative anoxygenic phototroph Rhodobacter capsulatus by using different cIPTG variants under...

Abstract Terpenoids offer various properties relevant for biotech and pharma industries. Production in microbes is a sustainable way to provide these compounds industrial use. The phototrophic bacterium Rhodobacter capsulatus has some unique characteristics making it promising alternative host terpenoid production. Recombinant biosynthetic pathways can be individually adapted through modular engineering meet the specific requirements of each microbial production process.

Recent studies have suggested that injection of solid particles such as alumina (Al2O3) and calcite (CaCO3) instead SO2 for stratospheric aerosol intervention could reduce some the adverse side effects SAI ozone depletion, heating, changes in diffuse radiation. However, expected improvements from alteration chemistry are subject to large uncertainties. We constrain these uncertainties by experimental work on using elastic recoil detection analysis (ERDA) in-situ experiments X-ray...
