Turmeric, the rhizome of Curcuma longa L., has a wide range effects on human health. The chemistry includes curcuminoids and sesquiterpenoids as components, which are known to have antioxidative, anticarcinogenic, antiinflammatory activities. In this study, we investigated three turmeric extracts blood glucose levels in type 2 diabetic KK-Ay mice (6 weeks old, n = 5/group). These were obtained by ethanol extraction (E-ext) yield both sesquiterpenoids, hexane (H-ext) from hexane−extraction...

Increasing evidence suggests that the elevation of β-amyloid (Aβ) peptides in brain is central to pathogenesis Alzheimer9s disease (AD). Our recent studies have demonstrated nobiletin, a polymethoxylated flavone from citrus peels, enhances cAMP/protein kinase A/extracellular signal-regulated kinase/cAMP response element-binding protein signaling cultured hippocampal neurons and ameliorates Aβ-induced memory impairment AD model rats. For first time, we report this natural compound improves...

We have systematically examined the cytotoxic activities of steroidal saponins mainly isolated from Liliaceae plants against HL-60 human promyelocytic leukemia cells and found several structure-activity relationships. Some evaluated in assay system showed considerable activities, which were almost as potent that etoposide used a positive control. The to be sensitive monosaccharides constituting sugar moieties their sequences, well structures aglycons.

Nobiletin is a nonpeptide compound with low molecular weight from citrus fruit and has the activity to rescue bulbectomy-induced memory impairment. Here we describe that nobiletin itself induces neurite outgrowth in PC12D cells, rat pheochromocytoma cell line, like NGF, mechanism of its neurotrophic action. As cultured presence or NGF for 48 h then assayed using scanning electron microscope, cells treated showed morphology flatter larger bodies than NGF. Nobiletin-induced was inhibited by...

A saponin-enriched fraction prepared from the MeOH extract of roots Clematis chinensis showed cytotoxic activity against HL-60 promyelocytic leukemia cells, which five new triterpene saponins based on oleanolic acid, along with three known saponins, were isolated. The structures determined basis spectroscopic analysis, including extensive 1D and 2D NMR data hydrolysis followed by chromatographic analysis. Among isolated monodesmosidic exhibited activities cultured tumor cells.
