This article presents a diffusion of innovation theory‐based framework for addressing the gap between research and practice in counseling profession. The stigma associated with intimate partner violence (IPV) is a major challenge facing those in abusive and violent relationships. This study explored the initial development validation of Intimate Partner Violence Stigma Scale, designed to measure related IPV. An Internet‐based survey about dating violence and self‐injury was completed by 1,777 undergraduates. A regression analysis tested if recent victimization perpetration experiences predicted whether participants self‐injured in the past 90 days, after controlling for demographic variables attitudes toward violence.
