Abstract Human reactions to conservation interventions can trigger unintended feedbacks resulting in poor outcomes. Understanding is a necessary first step toward the diagnosis and solution of environmental problems, but existing anecdotal evidence cannot support decision‐making. Using examples, we present conceptual framework typology based on social‐ecological systems (SES) approach. Three types causal mechanisms for are distinguished: (1) flow when pre‐existing enhanced or dampened; (2)...

Abstract A recent review suggests that forest cover needs to be restored or maintained on at least 40% of land area. In the absence empirical evidence support this threshold, we discuss how suggestion is unhelpful and potentially dangerous. We advocate for regionally defined thresholds inform conservation restoration.

Abstract It is nearly three decades since the world recognized need for a global multilateral treaty aiming to address accelerating biodiversity loss. However, continues decline at concerning rate. Drawing on lessons from implementation of current strategic plan Convention Biological Diversity and 2010 Aichi Targets, we highlight interlinked core areas, which require attention improvement in development post‐2020 Biodiversity Framework under Diversity. They are: (1) developing robust...

A recent review on optimal strategies for preserving biodiversity within human-modified landscapes suggests that forest cover needs to be restored or maintained at least 40%. While we agree it is paramount protect and increase in forested biomes, no evidence presented support this 40% threshold. Furthermore, there are several issues regarding implementation of such policy social-economic constraints makes suggestion unhelpful potentially dangerous.
