Water samples from 50 domestic wells located <1 km (proximal) and >1 (distal) shale-gas in upland areas of the Marcellus Shale region were analyzed for chemical, isotopic, groundwater-age tracers. Uplands targeted because natural mixing with brine hydrocarbons deep formations is less common those compared to valleys. CH4-isotope, predrill CH4-concentration, other data indicate that one proximal sample (5% samples) contains thermogenic CH4 (2.6 mg/L) a relatively shallow source (Catskill/Lock...
Factors affecting groundwater quality used for domestic supply within the Marcellus Shale footprint in north-central and north-east Pennsylvania are identified using a combination of spatial, statistical, geochemical modeling. Untreated groundwater, sampled during 2011–2017 from 472 wells study area, exhibited wide ranges pH (4.5–9.3), total dissolved solids (TDS, 22–1960 mg/L), sodium (0.3–760 chloride (0.3–1020 bromide (<0.01–8.6 methane (<0.001–77 mg/L). The had depths ranging 10 to 394...

Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) are contaminants that can lead to adverse health effects in aquatic organisms, including reproductive toxicity developmental abnormalities. To assess the ecological risk of PFAS Pennsylvania stream surface water, we conducted a comprehensive analysis included both measured predicted estimates. The potential combined exposure 14 individual biota were estimated using sum exposure-activity ratios (ΣEARs) 280 streams. Additionally, machine learning...

These are not regulated nor routinely monitored; thus relevant groundwater-quality information is widely available. The U.S. Survey (USGS),...

In early 1990s, Department Environmental Protection (PADEP) implemented Surface Identification Protocol (SWIP) for identification GUDI sources. Since establishment...
