Arginase (EC 3.5.3.1), l-arginine decarboxylase 4.1.1.19), and agmatine amidinohydrolase 3.5.3.11) activities spontaneously decay in Evernia prunastri thalli incubated on 40 millimolar used as inducer of the three enzymes if dithiothreitol is not added to media. Lichen accumulate both chloroatranorin evernic acid parallel loss activity. These substances behave inactivators at a range concentrations between 2 20 micromolar, whereas several reverse, some extent, vitro inactivation.

Infection of sugarcane buds (var. Barbados 42231) with teliospores Ustilago scitaminea changes the pattern polyamine conjugation in several organs 2-month-old plants. Stalks infected plants contain SH-spermidine that does not occur healthy organ. Similar results have been obtained for SH-spermine first expanded leaf and stem. The amount SH-cadaverine leaf, roots stem is always higher than found Some phenolics are also associated different fractions. So, p-hydroxybenzoic acid both SH PH...

A glycosylated arginase acting as a fungal lectin from Peltigera canina is able to produce recruitment of cyanobiont Nostoc cells and their adhesion the hyphal surface. This implies that would develop organelles motility towards chemoattractant. However when visualized by transmission electron microscopy, recently isolated P. thallus do not reveal any motile, superficial organelles, although surface was covered small spindles serrated layer related gliding. The use...

This study describes a method for determining cinnamyl alcohol dehydrogenase activity in sugarcane stems using reverse phase (RP) high-performance liquid chromatography to elucidate their possible lignin origin. Activity is assayed the mode, oxidation of hydroxycinnamyl alcohols into aldehydes. Appearance reaction products, coniferaldehyde and sinapaldehyde determined by measuring absorbance at 340 345 nm, respectively. Disappearance substrates, coniferyl sinapyl measured 263 273 Isocratic...

Leptogium corniculatum, a cyanolichen containing Nostoc as photobiont, produces and secretes arginase to culture medium arginine. This secreted was pre-purified by affinity chromatography on beads of activated agarose which polygalactosylated urease, purified from Evernia prunastri, attached. Arginase eluted the with 50 mmα-d-galactose. The binds preferentially cell surface isolated this lichen thallus, although it is also able bind, some extent, chlorobiont E. prunastri. Previous studies in...

The possibilities for using phenolics, extracted from the lichen Cladonia verticillaris with different organic solvents, as bioherbicides have herein been studied through observation of ultrastructural changes produced in Lactuca sativa seedlings. extracts mainly contain protocetraric and fumarprotocetraric acids very small amounts atranorin. It has observed that roots lettuce seedlings grow more rapidly presence phenols than their absence. This fact is supported by a minor number lobes less...

Sugarcane juice contains a lot of sucrose associated with several monosaccharides, defined as low molecular mass carbohydrates (LMMC), well some polysaccharides and glycoproteins, which are mid high (MMMC HMMC, respectively). These three categories can be separated by size-exclusion chromatography through Sephadex G-10 G-50 columns, but elution profiles change drastically after clarification performed adjusting the pH value to 8.0. In addition, polyamines phenolics currently carbohydrate...

Peltigera canina, a cyanolichen containing Nostoc as cyanobiont, produces and secretes arginase to medium arginine. Secreted acts lectin by binding the surface of cells through specific receptor which develops urease activity. The enzyme has been located in cell wall recently isolated cyanobionts. Cytochemical detection is achieved producing black, electron-dense precipitate cobalt sulfide proceeding from CO2 evolved urea hydrolysis presence chloride. This pre-purified affinity...

A new sugarcane (Saccharum officinarum L.) fructanase which hydrolyzes both high molecular weight polysaccharides ∣Fructose4:Galactitol5∣n (SP) and moderate-sized carbohydrates ∣Fructose2:Galactitol33∣n (MMWC) has been purified from juice. The Km value estimated to be 33.7 micrograms per milliliter 20 for SP MMWC, respectively. optimal pH temperature values are 6.0 30°C, Purified protein a pl of 6.35 13.2 kilodaltons. Fructanase activity appears Mn2+-dependent.

Incubation of Quercus rotundifolia branches in culture media containing lichen substances isolated from Evernia prunastri thallus produces inhibition Hill reaction chloroptasts the leaves branches. with diminishes amount chloroplastic manganese through a chelation process. This decrease causes loss photosynthetic activity because is restored upon addition exogenous to chloropiasts.

Urease activity in Evernia prunastri (L.) Ach. thallus is induced by incubation of lichen samples on 20 m M N,N‐dimethylformamide and N‐formylurea or 40 thiourea although, these two last cases, subsequently decreases again. The induction enzyme repressed including μ cycloheximide the medium. Filtration through Sepharose 6B cell‐free extracts from thalli incubated shows a main peak urease which has molecular weight about 560000 dalton. However, those floated show several peaks similar...
