An account is given of the benthic marine algae (and sea grasses) collected on 1965 Royal Society Expedition to Solomon Islands. The known algal flora fairly typical such a tropical area, comprising some 71 species Chlorophyta, 27 Phaeophyta, 121 Rhodophyta and 14 Cyanophyta. Pseudobryopsis solomonensis , P. gracilis, Caulerpa spathulata Cryptonemia ? subdichotoma are newly described. Seven grasses also recorded.
Responsiveness and resilience to coastal disasters is an increasingly critical need for governments, businesses, communities as the intensity of hurricanes, storms sea level rise exacerbates flood erosion damages. The number severity have increased significantly over past two decades while intense development has steadily degraded protective other ecosystem benefits from natural habitats such coral reefs, mangroves seagrasses. Such ecosystems can provide cost-effective, long-term risk...
Chronic anticoagulation for atrial fibrillation, history of venous thromboembolism, and following heart valve replacement is often stopped or bridged surgery. Our institutional practice to continue through ambulatory phlebectomy (AP) procedures. As such, we aimed compare post-procedure bleeding major adverse events in patients on who received compared not anticoagulation. We included all required AP from January 2016 February 2023. Given the low frequency chronic during study period, as...
The Royal Society Expedition to the Solomon Islands aimed at examining biogeographical relationships between these islands and other island systems of western tropical Pacific. marine party also studied intertidal reef ecology. Comprehensive collections benthic algae were made main localities visited (Florida Islands, north-west south-east Guadalcanal, Matiu Island off north coast Batuona Ulukoro south New Georgia, Banika in Russell Gizo Island). Additional small obtained from Kolombangara...
Purpose. To examine attitudes toward exercise among a vulnerable aged population characterized by low socioeconomic status, poor functional status and lack of available therapeutic resources.Method. This cross-sectional survey public low-income housing residents (n = 94), > 70 years utilizes these assessments: Physician-based Assessment & Counseling for Exercise (PACE) scale, self-efficacy score, Short Physical Performance Battery (SPPB), Activities Daily Living (ADL) Instrumental (IADL)...
Abstract Tourism plays a vital role in both economic development and depending on the scale, it can also aid environmental conservation. planning often considers culture-based nature-based tourism separately, failing to recognize synergies between them, with potential market locations as biocultural destinations. Using Colombia case study, we created metrics of taxonomic biological diversity measured by vertebrate species richness (including birds, mammals, freshwater fishes, reptiles,...
Abstract. Arctic Amplification (AA) is leading to significant glacier ice melting, rapid sea decline, and alterations in atmospheric geochemical processes the regions, with consequences on formation, transport, chemical composition of aerosols seasonal snowpack. Svalbard particularly exposed AA, thus represents a relevant site evaluate changes local environmental contributing snow composition. Sampling campaigns were conducted from 2018 2021 at Gruvebadet Snow Research Site Ny-Ålesund,...

Abstract Deforestation impacts the benefits coral reefs provide to coastal communities in multiple ways. Yet, connections between terrestrial and marine ecosystems are generally assessed at a single scale from an ecological perspective alone. This limits understanding of societal outcomes distributional effects watershed interventions. We employ linked land-sea ecosystem service models Mesoamerican Reef region explore how management (restoration, protection, sustainable agriculture) regional...
<p>The shelf break north of Svalbard represents a major gateway for the inflow nutrient-rich Atlantic Water (AW) to Arctic Ocean. In this region, AW leaves surface and subducts below Polar Surface (PSW). The supply nutrients euphotic layer therefore varies strongly by season but also interannually, depending on e.g. rates advection sea ice PSW over boundary current. Additionally, presence can limit light availability in spring early summer. Here, we present results from repeat...
