Very complicated inorganic solids can be self-assembled from structurally simple precursors as illustrated by the hydrothermal synthesis of vanadium phosphate, [(CH(3))(2)NH(2)]K(4)[V(10)O(10)(H(2)O)(2)(OH)(4)(PO(4))(7)].4H(2)O, 1, which contains chiral double helices formed interpenetrating spirals oxo pentamers bonded together P(5+). We report on current–voltage characteristics obtained at room temperature λ-DNA molecules, modified both ends with disulfide groups and spanning Au electrodes. A comparison is drawn between the of λ-DNA, which after modification features a gap 3′ 5′ sites (nicked DNA), where this has been ligated (repaired DNA). We show that antilocalization measurements can be used to experimentally study the interactions between InAs surface electrons and local moments of rare earth ions Sm${}^{3+}$, Gd${}^{3+}$, Ho${}^{3+}$ on surface.
