This study aimed to estimate the prevalence of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection among prison inmates and define behavioral profile infected individuals.In total, 147 individuals were interviewed provided biological material. The population consisted male who presented at health unit Florianopolis State Penitentiary.The HIV was 2.1% (95% confidence interval, 0.4-5.8). The present study aimed to estimate the prevalence of Hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection in a prison population.A total 147 individuals were interviewed and subjected venipuncture for collection blood sample. population consisted male who attended health unit state penitentiary Florianópolis.The HCV was 5.4%. Regarding behavioral variables, 95 (64.6%, p<0.0507) subjects reported consuming alcohol 7 (4.8%, p<0.0476) having already used injectable drugs.The studied higher than that general populations.
