A 1.3-kilobase cDNA clone (7A) coding for bovine galactosyltransferase (glycoprotein 4-beta-galactosyltransferase, EC 2.4.1.38) was isolated from a lambda gt11 expression library by immunological screening with monospecific polyclonal antisera to the affinity-purified enzyme. The nucleotide sequence of this predicts an open reading frame that starts at 5' end insert and codes polypeptide 334 amino acids Mr 37,645. Based on 57,000 membrane-bound enzyme accounts approximately 61% sequence....

Hydrophobic surfactant-associated protein of Mr 6000-14,000 was isolated from ether/ethanol or chloroform/methanol extracts mammalian pulmonary surfactant. Automated Edman degradation in a gas-phase sequencer showed the major N-terminus human low molecular weight to be Phe-Pro-Ile-Pro-Leu-Pro-Tyr-Cys-Trp-Leu-Cys-Arg-Ala-Leu-. Because N-terminal phenylalanine, surfactant designated SPL(Phe). Antiserum generated against hydrophobic protein(s) bovine recognized immunoblot analysis and used...

We have computed the production rates and densities of odd nitrogen species in Martian atmosphere using updated rate coefficients a revised ionosphere‐thermosphere model. find that NO are somewhat smaller than those measured by Viking 1, but reasonable agreement can be obtained assuming coefficient for loss reaction N with is at temperatures prevail lower thermosphere (about 130–160 K) standard value, which applies to 200–400 K. also modeled escape fluxes from due photodissociation,...

The binding domains of 28 monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) against the alpha, beta, and delta subunits Torpedo acetylcholine receptor were mapped on primary sequences these subunits. Small peptide fragments (2000-20,000 daltons) purified obtained by digestion with staphylococcal V8 protease papain, separated a discontinuous polyacrylamide gel electrophoretic system, electroblotted onto diaminophenyl thioether paper. blots probed various also carboxy-terminal decapeptides to identify fragments....

In hyaline membrane disease of premature infants, lack surfactant leads to pulmonary atelectasis and respiratory distress. Hydrophobic proteins Mr = 5,000-14,000 have been isolated from mammalian surfactants which enhance the rate spreading surface tension lowering properties phospholipids during dynamic compression. We characterized amino-terminal amino acid sequence proteolipids ether/ethanol extracts bovine, canine, human surfactant. Two distinct peptides were identified termed SPL(pVal)...

Two monoclonal antibodies (mAbs 236 and 237) against a synthetic peptide composed of the same amino acid residues as sequence 152-167 alpha subunit acetylcholine receptor were obtained, their crossreaction with peptide, subunit, solubilized was demonstrated. Crossreaction 159-169 less by factor 10(4), suggesting that mAbs bind primarily to 152-159. Cholinergic ligands did not inhibit mAb binding. No observed in native membranes, but could reconstituted into liposomes which 50% receptors have...

Synthetic peptides corresponding to 57% of the sequence alpha subunits acetylcholine receptors from Torpedo californica electric organ and extending NH2 COOCH terminus have been synthesized. The alpha-bungarotoxin binding site on denatured was mapped within 185-199 by assaying 125I-alpha-bungarotoxin slot blots synthetic peptides. Further studies showed that residues in 190-194, especially cysteines-alpha 192, 193, were critical for alpha-bungarotoxin. Reduction alkylation suggested these...

We have constructed a new model of the ionosphere Titan that includes 67 species and 626 reactions. Although N 2 + is major ion produced over most ionosphere, ionization flows to ions whose parent neutrals lower potentials formed from with large proton affinities. In contrast other models, which predicted HCNH should be ion, our calculations suggest at below peak are hydrocarbon ions, H, C, N‐containing ions. Our electron density for solar zenith angle 60° about 7.5 × 10³ cm −3 an altitude 1040 km.
