Abstract Clastic sedimentary systems and their characteristics are assumed not to have been modified by carbonate bioclastic grains until the Phanerozoic. Here, we show that presence of bioclasts produced disintegrated biomineralizing metazoans fine-grained siliciclastic facies in Late Ediacaran Tamengo Formation, Brazil, ca. 555–542 Ma. The analysis both polished sections thin shows sand-sized (< 2 mm) derived from metazoan Corumbella created diverse features later found Phanerozoic...

Carbon isotope compositions of both sedimentary carbonate and organic matter can be used as key proxies the global carbon cycle its evolution through time, long they are acquired from waters where dissolved inorganic (DIC) is in equilibrium with atmospheric CO2. However, shallow water platforms epeiric settings, influence local to regional parameters on cycling may lead DIC variations unrelated cycle. This especially true for terminal Neoproterozoic, when Gondwana assembly isolated masses...

ABSTRACT: High-resolution chemostratigraphic data of carbonates from the Sete Lagoas Formation (Bambuí Group) show large variations on C, O, and Sr isotope compositions. Impure limestones at base primal δ13C values between -1.0 0‰, δ18O -12.0 -8.0‰. However, some dolostones demonstrate varying +2.8 to -6.8‰, highly radiogenic 87Sr/86Sr ratios (>0.7111), low concentrations (<350 ppm) related post-depositional processes. In contrast, pure top very positive +8.3 +12.8‰, -10.0 -6.0‰,...

We present new Sm-Nd, U-Pb and Hf isotope geochronological data for the siliciclastic rocks in southern sector of São Francisco Basin. An abrupt change Sm-Nd is observed from Carrancas Formation’s oligomitic conglomerates (TDM ages between 2.7 3.3 Ga; εNd(550 Ma) values -25.09 -17.98), its finer facies, facies Moema Laminite 1.4 to 2.1 -9.46 -5.59). No further significant changes occur farther upwards Bambuí Group (Sm-Nd TDM within 1.3-2.0 Ga interval; -9.53 -4.09), showing a lack...

An interlaboratory comparison (ILC) was organised to characterise 87 Sr/ 86 Sr isotope ratios in geological and industrial reference materials by applying the so‐called conventional method for determining ratios. Four cements (VDZ 100a, VDZ 200a, 300a, IAG OPC‐1), one limestone (IAG CGL ML‐3) slate OU‐6) were selected, covering a wide range of naturally occurring isotopic signatures. Thirteen laboratories received aliquots these six together with detailed technical protocol. The consensus...

We deployed a procedure to measure Li isotope ratios on single‐collector sector field inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometer (ICP‐SFMS) operated with desolvation system and high‐sensitivity skimmer cone. Under optimised instrumental acquisition conditions, chromatographically separated analyte solutions containing 1 ng g −1 of provided adequate sensitivity using analogue mode detection for both isotopes, without adverse memory effect. Unprecedented this isotopic system, we estimated...

The Ediacaran-Cambrian transition is marked by the diversification of metazoans in marine realm. However, this not recorded Bambuí Group São Francisco basin, Brazil. Containing sedimentary record a partially confined foreland basin system, strata bear rare metazoan remnants and major carbon isotope positive excursion decoupled from global record. This has been explained changes paleogeography which became restricted epicontinental sea core Gondwana supercontinent, promoting episodes shallow...

The first animals (metazoans) with skeletons belong to the tubular ‘cloudinid’ morphogroup, lowest occurrence of which marks base Nama biotic assemblage (ca. 551–550 Million years ago, Ma). This evolutionary appearance coincided with, or immediately post-dated, a major faunal turnover event associated loss many soft-bodied White Sea taxa that dominated preceding ca. 6–10 Myrs. At present, there is no evidence majority cloudinid...
