Wrought magnesium alloys attract special interests as lightweight structural material due to their homogeneous microstructure and enhanced mechanical properties compared as-cast alloys. In this contribution, recent research developments on wrought are reviewed from the viewpoint of alloy design, focusing Mg-Al, Mg-Zn Mg-rare earth (RE) systems. The effects different alloying elements described considering strengthening mechanisms, e.g. grain refinement, precipitation texture hardening...
The influence of amount intermetallics on the degradation as-extruded Mg-Nd alloys with different contents Nd was investigated via immersion testing in DMEM+10% FBS under cell culture conditions and subsequent microstructural characterizations. It is found that presence intermetallic particles Mg41Nd5 affects corrosion two conflicting ways. One their negative role existence enhances micro-galvanic corrosion. Another positive role. Their favours formation a continuous compact layer. At early...
Mg–RE (Dy, Gd, Y) alloys show promising for being developed as biodegradable medical applications. It is found that the hydride REH 2 could be formed on surface of samples during their preparations with water cleaning. The amount hydrides in affected by content RE and heat treatments. increases increment content. On alloy T4 treatment higher. In contrast, lower surfaces as-cast T6-treated alloys. Their formation mechanism attributed to reaction water. part solid solution Mg matrix plays an...
Abstract A homogeneous microstructure of as-cast magnesium alloys is desired to improve the formability during their subsequent thermomechanical processing. Owing its similar crystal structure Mg, part Zr formed by peritectic reaction solidification was considered be most effective nucleants for alpha-Mg. However, regarding Al-containing alloys, up now no suitable and external were found them. Recently, it demonstrated that additions SiC worked in refining both Mg-Al Mg-Zn alloys. The...
Previous investigations demonstrated that rare‐earth elements (REs) could improve their creep properties effectively. Herein, the influence of Y content on magnesium is investigated systematically with different amount additions. The mechanisms responsible for deformation are clarified by analysis stress exponent and microstructural characterizations. It found addition in Mg can both ambient strength high temperature owing to its effective solid solution strengthening. At room temperature,...
Submicrometre (La-3137) superconducting powder is prepared by a polymeric polyprotic acid (PA)/ethylene glycol (EG) derived precursor method. Six different PAs, oxalic acid, succinic adipic malic aid, tartaric and citric are selected. It found that of the six PAs gives best results in terms particle size, homogeneity, carbon residue values resulting La-3137 powder.
Among all alloying elements the rare earth (RE) play a key role in improving ductility, high temperature strength and corrosion resistance effectively for magnesium its alloys. The present work investigated influences of single or multi heavy REs (Gd, Dy Y) on strengthening ductilizing magnesium. These have higher solid solubility than that light such as Nd Ce. It is found solution caused by Gd follows linear relationship with exponent n value 1/2 2/3. When adding two more Mg, owing to their...
More than ten organic acids containing hydroxyl or amino groups were selected as a medium to prepare submicrometer superconducting powder of La/sub 1.29/Ca/sub 0.43/Ba/sub 1.29/Cu/sub 3/O/sub y/ by using polymeric precursor method. Heat treated samples analyzed IR spectrometer for the degree polymerization, ICP and EDS homogeneity, SEM particle size determination. T/sub c/ measurement purity examination obtained resistivity X-ray diffraction, respectively. Organic three carboxyl are highly...
