We present a formulation of the quantum kinetic equations (QKEs), which govern evolution neutrino flavor at high density and temperature. Here, structure QKEs is derived from ground up, using fundamental interactions field theory. show that resulting describe coherent with an effective mass when inelastic scattering negligible. The also contain collision term. This term can reduce to in Boltzmann equation dominant masses matrices become diagonal interaction basis. find include motion for new...

We calculate the evolution of early universe through epochs weak decoupling, freeze-out and big bang nucleosynthesis (BBN) by simultaneously coupling a full strong, electromagnetic, nuclear reaction network with multi-energy group Boltzmann neutrino energy transport scheme. The modular structure our code provides ability to dissect relative contributions each process responsible for evolving dynamics in absence flavor oscillations. Such an approach allows detailed accounting $\nu_e$,...

Neutrinos play a critical role of transporting energy and changing the lepton density within core-collapse supernovae neutron star mergers. The quantum kinetic equations (QKEs) combine effects neutrino-matter interactions treated in classical Boltzmann transport with neutrino flavor-changing oscillation calculations. We present method for extending existing interaction rates to full QKE source terms use numerical demonstrate absorption emission by nucleons nuclei, electron scattering,...

We argue that the small fraction of neutrinos undergo direction-changing scattering outside neutrinosphere could have significant influence on neutrino flavor transformation in core-collapse supernova environments. show standard treatment for collective is adequate at late times but be inadequate early epochs supernovae, where potentials govern evolution are affected by scattered neutrinos. Taking account this effect, and way it couples to entropy composition, will require a new approach modeling.

We give the first self-consistent calculation of effect scattered neutrino halo on flavor evolution in supernovae. Our example case is an O-Ne-Mg core collapse supernova neutronization burst. find that addition neutrinos produces qualitative and quantitative changes final states neutrinos. also produce a novel distortion swap. results provide strong motivation for tackling full multidimensional composition-dependent aspects this problem future.

Recent studies have demonstrated that in anisotropic environments a coherent spin-flip term arises the Quantum Kinetic Equations (QKEs) which govern evolution of neutrino flavor and spin hot dense media. This can mediate neutrino–antineutrino transformation for Majorana neutrinos active-sterile Dirac neutrinos. We discuss physical origin provide explicit expressions QKEs two-flavor model with spherical geometry. In this context, we demonstrate depends on absolute mass phases.

Simulations of neutrino flavor evolution in compact merger environments have shown that flavor, and hence nucleosynthesis, can be strongly affected by the presence matter-neutrino resonances (MNRs), where there is a cancelation between matter potential. performed thus far follow along single trajectory, but self-consistency requires all trajectories to treated simultaneously, it has not been known whether MNR phenomena would still occur multi-angle models. We examine whether the newly derived neutrino spin coherence could lead to large-scale coherent neutrino-antineutrino conversion. In a linear analysis we find that such transformation is largely suppressed, but demonstrate nonlinear feedback can enhance it. point out conditions which favor this may exist in core collapse supernovae and binary neutron star mergers.
