최근 곤충자원을 이용하여 식약용 및 사료로 활용하기 위한 많은 연구가 진행되고 있으며 미래의 자원으로 발전할 수 있는 가능성이 충분하다고 본다. 특히, 대량으로 생산이 용이하고 유충과 번데기의 조단백질 무기물 함량이 우수한 아메리카동애등에는 양계 양어사료의 원료로써 사용 높게 평가되고 있다. 본 연구는 아메리카동애등에의 유충 항산화 활성을 비교 평가하였다. 아메리카동애등에 물 추출물의 경우 DPPH 라디칼 소거능이 <TEX>$147.8{\pm}1.6%$</TEX>로 양성 대조군으로 사용된 Vitamin C(5 mg/mL)의 <TEX>$109.0{\pm}0.15%$</TEX>와 메뚜기의 <TEX>$109.5{\pm}28%$</TEX> 보다 높은 나타내었다.
