In this paper four wireless sensor network operating systems are compared in terms of power consumption. The analysis takes into account the most common systems—TinyOS v1.0, TinyOS v2.0, Mantis and Contiki—running on Tmote Sky MICAz devices. With objective ensuring a fair evaluation, benchmark composed applications has been developed, covering typical tasks that Wireless Sensor Network performs. results show instant average current consumption devices during execution these applications....
In this paper, we discuss the feasibility of extracting energy from broadcast RF signals, mainly TV or radio emissions. This method would avoid dedicated suppliers that use some wireless sensor networks, which be especially useful in ultra-low power stand-alone nodes (outdoor). The flow is uninterrupted and a capacitor can slowly charged by means rectifier voltage multiplier. An average current up to 8 muA has been obtained 1.584 MHz amplitude modulated signal. Preliminary results indicate...
In this paper, we propose a method for obtaining an analytic model of the battery state-of-charge in wireless sensor nodes. The objective is to find simple models that can be used estimate accurately real state and consequently node lifetime. Running network nodes, provide motes with required information implement applications considered as battery-aware. proposed methodology reduces computational complexity avoiding complicated electrochemical simulations treating unknown system output...
The lifetime of wireless sensor networks deployments depends strongly on the nodes battery state health (SoH). It is important to detect promptly those motes whose batteries are affected and degraded by ageing, environmental conditions, failures, etc. There several parameters that can provide significant information SoH, such as number charge/discharge cycles, internal resistance, voltage, drained current, temperature, combination these be used generate analytical models capable predicting...
Up to now, vibrations have mostly been sensed by measuring displacement, velocity, and acceleration. The most common types of vibration sensors are piezoelectric, capacitive, null-balance, strain gage, optoelectronic, resonance beam, piezoresistive. We present a low-cost low-power detector based on the measurement magnetic field variations induced in recent SS501 giant magnetoresistance (GMR) sensor, for which has never applied. Vibrations small ferromagnetic pieces disturb Earth's field....
The design of a fully autonomous and wireless actuator node (“wEcoValve mote”) based on the IEEE 802.15.4 standard is presented. system allows remote control (open/close) 3-lead magnetic latch solenoid, commonly used in drip irrigation systems applications such as agricultural areas, greenhouses, gardens, etc. very low power consumption conjunction with valve, only when switching positions, to be solar powered, thus eliminating need wires facilitating its deployment. By using supercapacitors...
Currently the appearance of really low power wireless transceivers is motivating use renewable energies to embedded sensor nodes in many applications. Nevertheless, energy storage and its degradation still keep on being main issues design any battery powered device. We present an autonomous source based a new system architecture, which uses scavenging replenish two different rechargeable buffers instead conventional single one. Combining appropriately degradable large backup (Lithium-Ion)...
Metal Oxide Semiconductor or MOS-type gas sensors are resistive which can detect different reducible volatile gases in atmospheres with oxygen. These have been used areas such as food and drink industries healthcare, among others. In this type of sensor, the resistance value changes when it detects certain types gases. Due to electrical characteristics, need a conditioning circuit transform acquire data. Four electronic topologies, two sensors, concentrations substance presented compared...
This paper presents the design of a robust IoT (Internet Things) system developed for Smart Beaches Applications that allows planning and smart management these areas. The contributions this development were to implement low-cost maintained-free hardware devices with wireless data transmission based on Sigfox LPWAN (Low Power Wide Area Network) technology, evaluation application, overcome aggressive environment where nodes placed. Nodes have low power consumption, which be supplied by...

In real Wireless Sensor Networks applications is very important to take into account the current battery state of health. A parameter that can provide significant information its internal resistance. For estimating resistance, we assume a simple model composed source voltage and an resistor. This suitable for being implemented in low-cost motes with limited computational capabilities. The procedure this value involves acquisition voltages drained currents during execution typical WSN...
