This paper describes the Sloan Digital Sky Survey photometric system, a new five-color (u‧ g‧ r‧ i‧ z‧) wide-band CCD system with wavelength coverage from 3000 to 11 000 Å. The zero points will be based on an updated version of spectrophotometric ABv system. calibration, designated as AB95, is presented in this paper.

We report on the full control of phononic band diagrams for periodic stacks alternating layers poly(methyl methacrylate) and porous silica combining Brillouin light scattering spectroscopy theoretical calculations. These structures exhibit large robust on-axis gaps determined by longitudinal sound velocities, densities, spacing ratio. A facile tuning gap width is realized at oblique incidence utilizing vector nature elastic wave propagation. Off-axis propagation involves sagittal waves in...

Olfactory receptor responses (electroantennograms) were recorded from antennae of danaid butterflies. Antennae male and female queen butterflies (Danaus gilippus berenice) respond equally strongly to the hairpencil males, its crude extract, one two identified secretory components (the ketone). Responses second component diol) are weak. Hairpencils a related species, Lycorea ceres, which also contain ketone, effective in eliciting electroantennograms both sexes queen. another monarch...

Vinylidene complexes can be prepared in the coordination sphere of rhodium with silylalkynes, RCCSiMe3 whereas such were hitherto accessible only 1-alkynes, RCCH. The synthesis proceeds via a [1,2]-SiMe3 migration along alkyne CC bond, which is just as facile [1,2]-H shifts. corresponding formed intermediates also isolated.

Brillouin spectroscopy has been used to study the vibrational dynamics of clusters spherical polystyrene (PS) particles with different size. In a first approximation, spectra can be described by single particle model within continuum approximation Lamb theory. The yields excellent results for diameter d ≳ 500 nm, but fails in accounting lineshapes observed lowest frequency signals vibration spectrum smaller due broadening and shift lines confined vibrations. also predict an additional very...

We employ spontaneous Brillouin light scattering spectroscopy and detailed theoretical calculations to reveal identify elastic excitations inside the band gap of hypersonic hybrid superlattices. Surface cavity modes, their strength anticrossing are unambiguously documented fully controlled by layer thickness, elasticity, sequence design. This new soft matter based superlattice platform allows facile engineering density states opens pathways tunable phoxonic crystals.

We show that the mesoscale (∼200 nm) thermomechanical properties of polymer nanocomposites formed from silica nanoparticles (NPs) and poly(2-vinylpyridine) (P2VP) critically depend on their interfacial structure, which can be controlled by casting solvent. The composite films are solvent cast either pyridine (PYR) or methylethylketone (MEK), with uniform NP spatial distribution obtained in both cases. In MEK, our previous work has shown a bound layer P2VP is at surfaces, while no such when...

A material with anisotropic elastic mechanical properties and a direction-dependent hypersonic band gap is fabricated using ac electric field-directed convective self-assembly of colloidal ellipsoids. The frequency the gap, which detected in direction perpendicular to particle alignment entirely absent parallel alignment, effective sound velocities can be tuned by aspect ratio. We hypothesize that originates from primary eigenmode peak, $m$-splitted ($s$,1,2) mode, resonating medium. These...
