Abstract Super typhoon Haiyan struck the Philippines on 8 November 2013, marking one of strongest typhoons at landfall in recorded history. Extreme storm waves attacked Pacific coast Eastern Samar where violent first made landfall. Our field survey confirmed that overwash heights 6–14 m above mean sea level were distributed along southeastern and extensive inundation occurred some coastal villages spite natural protection by wide fringing reefs. A wave model based Boussinesq‐type equations...
In recent years, seagrass beds in Cam Ranh Bay and Thuy Trieu Lagoon have declined from 800 to 550 hectares, resulting insignificantly reducing the number of fish catch. This phenomenon is due effect degradation water environment. Turbidity one most important quality parameters directly related underwater light penetration which affects primary productivity. study aims investigate spatiotemporal variation turbidity waters with major factors affecting its patterns using remote sensing data....
In this study, we examined the natural recovery of mangroves in abandoned shrimp ponds located Wunbaik Mangrove Forest (WMF) Myanmar using artificial neural network (ANN) classification and a change detection approach with Sentinel-2 satellite images. 2020, conducted various experiments related to mangrove by tuning input features hyper-parameters. The selected ANN model was used transfer learning predict distribution 2015. Changes were detected results from 2015 2020. Naturally recovering...
Abstract Coastal protection measures can be categorized into grey and green solutions in terms of their ecosystem impacts. As the use has become a serious issue due to environmental consequences during last few decades, green/nature-based have prioritized. This study evaluates effectiveness applied along eastern Chao Phraya Delta (ECPD) based on historical shoreline change analysis coastal observations using Light Detection Ranging technology. The results from indicate that nearshore...
AbstractThe behavior of the 2011 Tohoku earthquake tsunami in Tokyo Bay and its resultant damage to coasts are studied using a field survey, an analysis observed wave profiles numerical hindcasting FVCOM Delft3D-Flow. The survey reveals that caused several fishery ports overflow, unexpectedly large inundation run-up heights 2.84 m 2.91 were recorded Funabashi Fishery Port Shin-Futtsu Port, respectively. Examining profiles, entered bay with maximum height approximately 0.9 for second period...
Abstract Line‐shaped rainbands (LRBs) are severe storm events that cause torrential rainfall across the mid‐latitudes and difficult to accurately predict because of their complex physical processes. We examined occurrence LRBs in boreal summer northern Japan over period 1990–2010. In years with anomalously many LRBs, development was driven by a combined positive anomaly warm sea‐surface temperatures westerly moisture flux associated prominent pattern surface pressure anomalies between main...
Abstract Reanalysis data and a parametric typhoon model formula are often used to prepare wind pressure fields for storm surge hindcasting. However, their optimum selection usage have not been well established. To enhance the accuracy of fields, two hybrid methods were proposed by applying Mitsuta–Fujii’s formula, which is determined from center certain radius R b , then switching reanalysis ERA-Interim in outer region through interpolated transition bandwidth W . In I, fixed because...
Abstract. The 11 March 2011 tsunami triggered by the M9 and M7.9 earthquakes off Tōhoku coast destroyed facilities at Fukushima Dai-ichi Nuclear Power Plant (FNPP) leading to a significant long-term flow of radionuclide 137Cs into coastal waters. A high-resolution, global-coastal nested ocean model was first constructed simulate inundation. Based on model's success in reproducing observed inundation, experiments were then conducted with differing grid resolution assess initial spread over...
Abstract This study evaluates the historical coastal change and development along eastern coastline of Upper Gulf Thailand between 1953 2019 based on a series aerial photographs satellite images. Long‐term (~70 years) short‐term (~10 shoreline movement rates were analysed using Digital Shoreline Analysis System (DSAS). Results this analysis indicate that western coast (WBK) Bang Pakong River mouth has undergone severe degradation, with land loss about 980 ha over last seven decades....
Mangrove creeks have extremely large carbonate chemistry parameters (partial pressure of carbon dioxide (pCO2), dissolved inorganic (DIC), and total alkalinity (TA)) owing to the porewater export by tidal pumping. In this study, relationship between oscillations was clarified, CO2 emissions from mangrove swamps were evaluated in a forest Japan, where duration swamp inundation longer during neap tides asymmetry. The pCO2 values creek ranged 307 6036 µatm, with maximum recorded at 4583 µatm...
This paper presents the development of a U-Net model using four basic optical bands and SRTM data to analyze changes in mangrove forests from 1990 2024, with an emphasis on impact restoration programs. The model, which employed supervised learning for binary classification by fusing multi-temporal Landsat 8 Sentinel-2 imagery, achieved superior accuracy 99.73% 2020 image classification. It was applied predict long-term maps Wunbaik Mangrove Forest (WMF) detect at five-year intervals. change...
Coordination structures of the Co(+)(NH(3))(n) and Ni(+)(NH(3))(n) ions are probed by infrared (IR) photodissociation spectroscopy with aid density functional theory (DFT) calculations. The IR spectra N(2)-tagged (n = 1-4) exhibit two distinct bands assignable to symmetric antisymmetric NH stretches NH(3) molecules binding directly Co(+). Size-dependent changes in 4-8) indicate that first shell Co(+) is filled four resulting 4-coordinated structure forms central core further solvation. 3-8)...
Seagrass meadows are one of the blue carbon ecosystems that continue to decline worldwide. Frequent mapping is essential monitor seagrass for understanding change processes including seasonal variations and influences meteorological oceanic events such as typhoons cyclones. Such approaches may also enhance strategy management practices. Although unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) photography has been widely conducted this purpose, there have challenges in accuracy, efficiency, applicability...
