Background Cancer patients have an increased risk of a severe COVID-19 infection with higher mortality rate. This study aimed to analyze the levels anti-SARS-CoV-2 S-RBD IgG and NAB among cancer who were vaccinated vaccines, either BNT162b2, mRNA-1273, AZD1222/ChAdOx1nCoV-19, or Coronavac/BBIBP-CorV vaccines. Method A cross-sectional was conducted subjects solid hematological cancers had received two doses mRNA non-mRNA vaccines within 6 months. The NAb analyzed using Mindray Immunoassay...

Introduction During the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, vitamin D has been established as an immune-modulator that reduces pro-inflammatory damage which effectively diminish severity of COVID-19. Vitamin also a significant effect against influenza and dengue increase seroconversion following vaccination. To date, role in optimizing efficacy COVID-19 vaccines remains unclear. This study aimed to analyze correlation between serum 25-hydroxy-cholecalciferol or 25(OH)D levels...

Acid-fast staining has been utilized in the field of medicine since late 1800s. It was, for a while, considered gold standard diagnosing leprosy and tuberculosis. Principally it uses 1 primary agent, carbol fuchsin; methylene blue as counter stain. The emergence molecular-based diagnostic tests makes some us question relevance acid-fast daily practice. This literature review aimed to revisit method, its uses, modification that occurred throughout years.

Leprosy remains a public health problem in Indonesia. Diagnostic tools have been developed order to aid early diagnosis and prompt treatment. Phenolic glycolipid (PGL)-1 has considered as good candidate for leprosy but found several limitations. More recently, the conjugation between natural disaccharide octyl (NDO) IDRI diagnostic (LID)-1, known NDO-LID, shows great promise because of its high specificity sensitivity ability detect before any clinical signs are present. The test...

Delays of leprosy detection and treatment can lead to disability potential transmission. Serologic examination has the advantage in detecting Subclinical Leprosy. The procedure serologic test, which is one its main limitation, could be simplified by use filter paper. This study aims assess effectiveness capillary blood dropped on paper as a substitute for venous household contact patients. Seventeen samples dried from same individual were examined ELISA method determine levels IgM...

Background: In the era of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), it is mandatory to identify vulnerable people with cancers as they have impaired immune system that can lead high mortality. This study analyzes complete blood count (CBC) derived inflammatory biomarkers and level anti-SARS-CoV-2 neutralizing antibody (NAb) spike protein’s receptor-binding domain immunoglobulin G (S-RBD IgG) among cancer survivors.
Methods: A cross-sectional was...

Multiple Locus Variable Number of Tandem Repeat (VNTR) analysis has been proposed as a means genotyping for tracking leprosy transmission due to tandem repeats’ potential genetic markers differentiate M. leprae strains. However, characteristics polymorphism can vary depending on the population. This study aimed compare copy number repeats in four markers: TTC, AC8a, AC9 and 6-7 patients from Surabaya Bandung. Twenty three Dr. Soetomo General Hospital 21 Hasan Sadikin were recruited. locus...

The overlapping symptoms COVID-19 linked acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) with concomitant pulmonary embolism (PE) provide a diagnostic difficulty for emergency physicians. The high prevalence among children shows continued transmission from adult and lack of disease control by the health system. Detection anti-NDO-LID-1 has been known to be more effective predict development leprosy in household contacts than just detecting PGL-1 or LID- 1 alone. However, serodiagnosis is not available poorer-settings area procedure (venepuncture) still inconvenient some people. These problems can solved using finger-prick blood sample on filter paper.
