We offer an overview of the COVID-19 -driven air quality changes across 11 metropolises in Spain with focus on lessons learned how continuing abating pollution. Traffic flow decreased by up to 80% during lockdown and remained relatively low full relaxation (June July). After a significant shift from public transport private vehicles (+21% Barcelona) persisted due pervasive fear that using might increase risk SARS-CoV-2 infection, which need be reverted as soon possible. NO2 levels fell below...

Abstract Increasing urbanization worldwide calls for more sustainable urban development. Simultaneously, the global biodiversity crisis accentuates need of fostering within cities. Policies supporting nature conservation to understand people's acceptance biodiversity‐friendly greenspace management. We surveyed than 2,000 people in 19 European cities about their attitudes toward near‐natural grassland management public greenspaces, and related responses nine sociocultural parameters. Results...

Grasslands are widespread elements of urban greenspace providing recreational, psychological and aesthetic benefits to city residents. Two grassland types contrasting management dominate greenspaces: frequently mown, species-poor short-cut lawns less intensively managed, near-natural tall-grass meadows. The higher conservation value meadows makes interventions such as converting into a promising tool for biodiversity conservation. societal success interventions, however, depends on...

Abstract. The addition of carbonate minerals to seawater through an artificial ocean alkalinity enhancement (OAE) process increases the concentrations hydroxide, bicarbonate, and ions. This leads changes in pH buffering capacity seawater. Consequently, OAE could have relevant effects on marine organisms speciation concentration trace metals that are essential for their physiology. During September October 2021, a mesocosm experiment was carried out coastal waters Gran Canaria (Spain),...

Abstract The coccolithophore Emiliania huxleyi shows a variety of responses to ocean acidification (OA) and high-CO 2 concentrations, but there is still controversy on differentiating between these two factors when using different strains culture methods. A heavily calcified type strain isolated from the Norwegian Sea was selected batch cultured in order understand whether acclimation OA mediated mainly by CO or H + , how it impacted cell growth performance, calcification, physiological...

In this paper, we present an unprecedented and general umpolung protocol that allows the functionalization of silyl enol ethers 1,3-dicarbonyl compounds with a large range heteroatom nucleophiles, including carboxylic acids, alcohols, primary secondary amines, azide, thiols, also anionic carbamates derived from CO2 . The scope reaction extends to carbon-based nucleophiles. relies on use 1-bromo-3,3-dimethyl-1,3-dihydro-1λ3 [d][1,2]iodaoxole, which provides key α-brominated carbonyl...

We studied the effects of elevated CO 2 concentrations on cell growth, calcification, and spectral variation in sensitivity photosynthesis to inhibition by solar radiation globally important coccolithophore Emiliania huxleyi . Growth rates chlorophyll a content per showed no significant differences between (800 ppmv) ambient (400 conditions. However, production organic carbon quotas for both nitrogen, increased under conditions, whilst particulate inorganic decreased same Biometric analyses...

Ultraviolet radiation (UVR; 280-400 nm) has a great impact on aquatic ecosystems by affecting ecophysiological and biogeochemical processes as consequence of the global change scenario generated anthropogenic activities. We studied effect PAR (P)+UVA (A)+UVB (B) i.e. PAB, molecular physiology unicellular green alga Dunaliella tertiolecta for six days. assessed relationship between triggered UVR stress response metacaspases caspase-like (CL)activities, which are proteases denoted to...
