Summary

Background
Antiretroviral therapy (ART) is crucial for controlling HIV-1 infection through wide-scale treatment as prevention and pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP). Potent tenofovir disoproxil fumarate-containing regimens are increasingly used to treat prevent HIV, although few data exist frequency risk factors of acquired drug resistance in regions hardest hit by the HIV pandemic. Effect estimates may be biased when the study design or data analysis is conditional on a collider—a variable that caused by two other variables. Causal directed acyclic graphs are helpful tool to identify colliders introduce selection bias in observational research.

With more than 7500 cases reported since April 2022, Spain has experienced the highest incidence of mpox in Europe. From 12 July onward, modified vaccinia Ankara-Bavaria Nordic (MVA-BN) smallpox vaccine was offered as pre-exposure prophylaxis for those receiving human immunodeficiency virus (HIV-PrEP). Our aim to assess effectiveness 1 dose MVA-BN against (MPXV) infection persons on HIV-PrEP.

Methods Estimated RSV hospitalisations < 1‐year‐olds during weeks 40, 2023, 8, 2024, compared number that would be expected after accounting for background change circulation 2023/24 season, 2022/23. Inverse probability weights used to fit marginal structural models are typically estimated using logistic regression. However, a data‐adaptive procedure may be able better exploit information available in measured covariates. By combining predictions from multiple algorithms, ensemble learning offers an alternative regression modeling further reduce bias model parameters.
