As a signatory to the United Nations Convention Combat Desertification (UNCCD), Brazil has made significant progress in combating desertification through initiatives such as National Policy and Mitigate Effects of Drought (PNCD), implemented 2015, New Brazilian Action Plan (PAB-Brasil 2024). Despite these advances, extensive areas throughout country continue face intensified degradation processes driven by inadequate land management increasing frequency severe drought events. Our work...

The Amazon rainforest stands at the forefront of socio-ecohydrological challenges, with ever-growing extreme events such as droughts and floods disrupting ecosystems local communities. Addressing these issues requires co-creative transdisciplinary approaches that blend scientific knowledge lived experiences expertise diverse stakeholders. Here, we present three distinct co-creation initiatives in Amazon, each a different stage development, to illustrate transformative potential, complexities...

Water crises have risen over the past decade. In Brazilian context, extreme events intensified country, undermining water systems in regions that already face shortages. Although previous studies focussed on individual of Brazil, an overview entire country will contribute to developing a national action plan for mitigating inequalities. Therefore, we reviewed and analysed security presenting diagnosis peculiarities each geographic region hydrographic area. One biggest threats is slow pace...

An application of wavelet analysis is done with the total monthly rainfall data Matsuyama city, in order to analyze variability observed such an area. Besides analysis, main frequency components time series are studied by global spectrum, revealing that city composed mainly annual frequency. Thus, modulation 8-16-month band examined average all scales between 8 and 16 months, giving a measure variance versus time, where periods low or high could be identified.

Urban planning requires the integration of several disciplines, among them ones related to water resources. The impacts urban development on those resources, and viceversa, are well known, but some aspects have not been characterized in literature. This research analyzes a case that shows interesting relationships between planning, its legislation, evolution occupation resources: groundwater, surface water, drainage saltwater intrusion. The argues for integrated dynamic monitoring directive...

Abstract In water scarcity situations, rationing is a management measure taken in order to ensure equitable access water. The current study presents some factors that contribute situation of injustice Campina Grande, city located the Brazilian semiarid region, which has been facing new drought cycle since 2012. supply conditions households and users' perceptions about impacts on their use routines were monitored for 6 months. Two variables considered: household income shortage risk. Among...

Abstract. Extreme events are part of climate variability. Dealing with variability is still a challenge that might be increased due to change. However, impacts extreme not only dependent on their variability, but also management and governance. In Brazil, its semi-arid region vulnerable events, especially droughts, for centuries. Actually, other Brazilian regions have been mostly concerned floods currently experiencing droughts. This article evaluates how combination between water governance...

ABSTRACT Regions with high hydrological variability are usually supplied by reservoirs that regularize discharges inter-annually, low discharge of regularization, seasonally subject to large overflow and evaporation losses in their periods water levels. The Brazilian semiarid is one such regions. This work looks at the possibility using would be evaporated and/or spilled, regions characteristics, supply demands not otherwise provided maximum legally allowed withdrawal discharge. proposed...

ABSTRACT The lack of process-based classification procedures may lead to unrealistic hyetograph design due complex oscillation rainfall depths when assimilated at high temporal resolutions. Four consecutive years sub-hourly data were in three study areas (Guaraíra, GEB, São João do Cariri, CEB, and Aiuaba, AEB) under distinct climates (very hot semi-arid tropical wet). Abstract. Environmental equity is a concept derived from the (un)equal exposure to environmental degradation by different social groups, usually minorities and low-income people exposed major risks, also known as justice. It assumed that no group of people, independent race, ethnicity or socio-economic class, should support, either in concentrated unevenly distributed form, negative impacts resulting industrial, agricultural, commercial infrastructure activities government programs policies....
