The ways that plant-feeding insects have diversified are central to our understanding of terrestrial ecosystems. Obligate nursery pollination mutualisms provide highly relevant model systems how plants and their insect associates the over 800 species fig trees (Ficus) allow comparative studies. Fig can one or more pollinating wasp (Agaonidae) breed within figs, but factors influencing number remain be established. In some widely distributed trees, form populations isolated by large swathes...
Traditional healers in Thailand are a primary source of health care for the Thai people. Highly experienced traditional generally older people and they continue to pass away without recording or passing on their knowledge. Consequently, cumulative knowledge held by regarding use medicinal plants is being eroded could be lost. In this study, we aimed identify document associated ethnobotanical Roi Et northeastern Thailand. Data plant specimens were collected from four Phu Tai They selected...
Plants, phytophagous insects and their parasitoids form the most diverse assemblages of macroscopic organisms on earth. Enclosed in particular represent a tractable system for studying community assembly diversification. Communities associated with widespread plant species are especially suitable as they facilitate comparative approach. Pantropical fig-wasp communities remarkably well-replicated system, ideal these historical processes. We expect high dispersal ability non-pollinating fig...
Kaempferia jenjittikuliae, a new species of subg. Protanthium (Zingiberaceae) from Central–Northeastern Thailand, is described and illustrated. The diagnostic characters this novel taxon are discussed compared with those the morphologically similar lopburiensis, K. rotunda udonensis. Detailed photographs plants dissected flowers, information on phenology, distribution ecology, provided. A preliminary IUCN conservation assessment Critically Endangered (CR) assigned.
Taxonomic study of Kaempferia subgen. Protanthium (Zingiberaceae) is difficult due to a high degree intraspecific morphological variation in several species and the implied overlap among currently recognized species. Herein, we clarify taxonomic circumscription K. noctiflora, rare endemic Chiang Mai Province (N Thailand), by describing noctiflora var. thepthepae Noppornch. & Somnoo, nova. It differs from especially labellum colouration flowering time. The diagnostic characters this novel...
Abstract Background: Local knowledge of herbal medicine in rural communities is rich. This part cultures plays an important role societies where indigenous and folk healing has been passed down from generation to generation. Most the was never written much such disappeared over time when it presented orally through memorization. The objective this study compile related medicinal plants used by Tai Lao traditional healers Roi et province identify their explicit use order preserve useful...
Botanical expeditions in Laos through a collaboration between Thailand (Queen Sirikit Botanic Garden) and (Pha Tad Ke to document plant diversity collect plants for ex situ conservation, led the discovery of two species Gesneriaceae previously believed be endemic Thailand: Damrongia trisepala (Barnett) D.J.Middleton & A.Weber Didymocarpus formosus Nangngam D.J.Middleton. Information on these is provided.
Meizotropis buteiformis (Leguminosae), a new genus and species record for Thailand, is described illustrated.
A monotypic genus Dimetra represented by D. craibiana Kerr known to be endemic Thailand. Presently, the specimen from Xayaburi Province, Lao PDR are reported as newly discovered for Laos PDR. Detailed description and photographs provided.
This paper presents five newly recorded species of Flemingia present in two subgenera; Flemingiastrum and Rhynchosioides. Four are new for Thailand: F. nana, semialata, vestita wallichii. One species, is Myanmar, one wightiana, Laos. Two taxa, brevipes latifolia var. siamensis, synonymised under macrophylla. Detailed morphological descriptions colour photographs provided. A key to the subgenus Thailand
