Lignin-containing cellulosic nanofibrils (LCNF) were extracted from residual oil palm empty fruit bunches (EFB), an abundant but underutilized bioresource, by using a set of sulfur-free fractionation methods. The various types isolated LCNF used to reinforce starch-based biofoams. incorporation achieved remarkable increases, factor 44 and 66, the Young's modulus yield stress in compression mode, respectively. In addition, owing relatively lower hydrophilicity lignin, water sorption composite...

Understanding enzyme-substrate interactions is critical in designing strategies for bioconversion of lignocellulosic biomass. In this study we monitored molecular events, situ and real time, including the adsorption desorption cellulolytic enzymes on lignins cellulose, by using quartz crystal microgravimetry surface plasmon resonance. The effect a nonionic active molecule was also elucidated. Three lignin substrates relevant to sugar platform biorefinery efforts were considered, namely,...

Autohydrolysis and microemulsion treatments followed by microfluidization are employed to isolate micro- nanofibrillar cellulose (MNFC) from coir fibers palm tree empty fruit bunches (EFB) with residual lignin content of ∼24 ∼31 wt %, respectively. The associated MNFC characterized in each treatment for their chemical, structural, thermal properties. most significant findings include the fact that two populations produced, distinctive structural differences characteristic lateral dimensions...

Lignins were isolated from spruce, wheat straw, and eucalyptus by using the milled wood lignin (MWL) method. Functional groups compositional analyses assessed via 2D NMR 31P to realize their effect on enzyme binding. Films of lignins fabricated ellipsometry, atomic force microscopy, water contact angle measurements used for characterization reveal changes upon adsorption. Moreover, thin films deposited quartz crystal microgravimetry (QCM) surface plasmon (SPR) resonance sensors gain further...

Abstract This paper describes the synthesis of photoisomerizable derivatives isosorbide. These contain a stilbene or cinnamate moiety and can therefore be used as chiral compounds in cholesteric liquid‐crystalline mixtures. The reflection wavelength layers made from these mixtures is increased by UV irradiation due to fact that Z ‐isomers exhibit lower helical twisting power than corresponding E ‐isomers. are very suitable for use color filters find application liquid‐crystal displays.

ABSTRACT Freeze‐dried and milled lignocellulose nanofibrils (LCNF) were used to reinforce polypropylene (PP) nanocomposites. The LCNF, containing up 9% lignin, was obtained from residual Empty Palm Fruit Bunch (EPFB) fibers. Soy protein isolate (SPI) hydroxypropyl cellulose (HPC) tested as coupling agents well maleic anhydride grafted (MAPP), which a reference. A good level of dispersion LCNF in the PP matrix while mechanical testing thermal analyses indicated an improvement...

Empty fruit bunches (EFB) from palm oil were characterized. The holocellulose (66.97%), α-cellulose (47.91%), and lignin (24.45%) are similar to wood materials, various non-wood but the fiber length is shorter (0.53 mm). influence of operational variables in EFB pulping [formic acid (75-95%), hydrochloric (0.05-0.15%), time (30-150 min)], on yield, kappa number, viscosity, brightness pulps was studied.
