Frenulates are a group of sedentary Annelida within the family Siboglinidae that inhabit ocean floor and present unique challenge for comprehensive molecular phylogenetic investigations. In this study, we focused on frenulates, specifically assembling mitochondrial genomes Siboglinum plumosum Oligobrachia dogieli. The reconstruction placed S. as sister taxon to ekmani, O. dogieli fiordicum, supporting non-monophyletic nature genus Siboglinum. Overall, study supports phylogeny while...
A new species of Pogonophora obtained from one station at a depth 25 m near the Dikson Island in Kara Sea is described. Galathealinum karaense sp. nov. largest pogonophorans, first known representative rare genus Kirkegaard, 1956 Eurasian part Arctic Ocean and highly unusual finding for desalted shallow Yenisey Gulf. Several characters occurring are or unique among congeners: under-developed, hardly discernible frills on tube segments, extremely thin felted fibres external layer tube, very...
Abstract The system of muscle fibers associated with the brain and lateral nerve cords is present in all major groups enoplan nemerteans. Unfortunately, very little known about functional role spatial arrangement these muscles central nervous system. This article examines architecture musculature two species monostiliferous nemerteans ( Emplectonema gracile Tetrastemma cf. candidum ) using phalloidin staining confocal microscopy. also briefly discusses body‐wall cephalic region. In both...
