One of the key conditions lithopanspermia hypothesis is that microorganisms situated within meteorites could survive hypervelocity entry from space through Earth’s atmosphere. So far, all experimental proof this possibility has been based on tests with sounding rockets which do not reach transit velocities natural meteorites. We explored survival spore-forming thermophilic anaerobic bacterium, Thermoanaerobacter siderophilus, placed 1.4-cm thick basalt discs fixed exterior a capsule (the...

Long (3–4 years) time series of the surface Gulf Stream position and near‐bottom flow south Nova Scotia support earlier findings a barotropic semimonthly periodicity in region, bimodal path downstream New England Seamount Chain, seasonal shift position. results are (1) marked reduction meridional shifts when it is its north mode, (2) seeming to be related at times Mf tide (the most energetic long‐period tide), (3) an energetic, highly coherent (but out phase) motion with near‐40‐day period flow.

The hydrology of the Southern Ocean is characterized by several oceanic fronts that together form largest Antarctic Circumpolar Current. methodology synoptical monitoring based on observations during seasonal maritime operations for supply Russian stations. It happens use continuous registrations variability horizontal gradients temperature sea surface layer (SSLT) in situ, and (SST) from satellite infrared (IR) data, which are taken real-time board research vessel. This makes possible more...

The latest in a series of Great Geographical Discoveries was the finding southern ice continent 1820. It long expected, but very late for different reasons. Among main ones are physical and geographical characteristics Southern Polar Region Earth, which discovered much earlier than Northern one. Geographers sailors, confident polar symmetry planet's surface, found it difficult to imagine location still unknown so close South Pole. In addition, vast belt water Ocean surrounding Antarctica (and is)...
