Introduction Arboviruses are an important public health problem in Brazil, especially flaviviruses, including the Saint Louis encephalitis virus (SLEV) and Rocio (ROCV), problematic. These viruses transmitted to humans or other vertebrates through arthropod bites may cause diseases with clinical manifestations that range from asymptomatic infection, viral hemorrhagic fever encephalitis. Methods A serological survey of horses various regions Brazil using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay...

Bovine leptospirosis causes economic losses and raises public health concerns. It is possible that there are peculiarities in the epidemiology of regions with a semiarid climate, such as Caatinga biome Brazil, where climate hot dry, etiological agent require alternative routes transmission. This study aimed to close knowledge gaps diagnosis Leptospira spp. infection cows from biome, Brazil. Serum samples from 975 adult goats 110 were examined for antibodies by MAT using 24 serovars. structured questionnaire focusing leptospirosis completed each flock. Of the 48 (43.6%; 95% CI: 34.2–53.4%) presented at least one seropositive animal, and most frequent serovar Autumnalis (10.9%)....

Since the emergence of West Nile virus (WNV) in North America 1999, there have been several reports WNV activity Central and South American countries. To detect Brazil, we performed a serological survey horses from different regions Brazil using recombinant peptides domain III WNV. Positive samples were validated with neutralisation test. Our results showed that 79 ELISA-positive horses, nine expressed WNV-specific neutralising antibodies. Eight infected state Mato Grosso do Sul one was...

Madariaga virus (MADV), the new species designation for South American isolates of eastern equine encephalitis (EEEV), is genetically divergent and substantially different in ecology pathogenesis from North EEEV strains. We isolated characterized a MADV isolate obtained horse Brazil. Our results support previous phylogenetic studies showing there are three distinct lineages. The Paraíba State belongs to lineage III closely related Peruvian, Colombian Venezuelan isolates.
