Abstract Objectives Point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) has become increasingly integrated into medical education given the growing role of evaluative and procedural techniques in practice today. Tele-ultrasound is a new promising venture that aims to expand knowledge previously unreached or underserved areas. This study aimed determine non-inferiority teaching remotely using tele-ultrasound via Philips Lumify (Philips Medical Systems, Bothell, WA) system, which utilizes video conferencing...
To evaluate the feasibility of magnetic resonance (MR) perfusion imaging in human lung to help detect defects distal suspected pulmonary embolism.Seven patients having embolism first underwent ventilation-perfusion scintigraphy followed by MR with rapid acquisition two sets dynamic images coronal and transaxial planes. A bolus 0.05 mmol per kilogram body weight gadopentetate dimeglumine or gadodiamide was administered. Single obtained each section that showed peak signal intensity from...
The most effective technique for ultrasound-guided peripheral intravenous access (USGPIVA) is unknown. In the traditional short-axis (locate, align, puncture [LAP]), target vessel aligned in short axis with center of transducer. needle then directed toward under real-time ultrasound (US) guidance. Locate, mark, (LAMP) requires extra step marking skin at two points over path vein and proceeding direct visualization as LAP. difference success between these techniques was compared among...
Objectives: The ideal diagnostic test for the diagnosis of epiglottitis would be simple, rapid, noninvasive, and highly accurate, performed at bedside, not use ionizing radiation. purpose this study was to assess utility ultrasound image epiglottis determine range normal diameter men women. Methods: This a prospective convenience sample 100 subjects between ages 18 50 years who had no known acute or chronic laryngeal diseases surgeries. anterior neck each subject scanned in both long short...

Hypoxia has been observed when infants undergo lumbar puncture in a tight flexed lateral recumbent position. This study used sonographic measurements of interspinous spaces to investigate the anatomic necessity and advantage derived from this positioning infants. This was brief, prospective, observational convenience sample patients. Twenty-one healthy under 1 month age were scanned two positions: prone spine-neutral position with their knees bent into chest neck flexed. In each position, 5-...
Abstract A model of bacterial peritonitis, using mice infected with Escherichia coli, has been used to assess the protective effects intraperitoneal treatment antiseptics. Of five antiseptics tested, only chlorhexidine gluconate had any effect, concentrations 0.05 and 0.02 per cent reducing mortality 14 50 respectively. The other antiseptics, taurolin, noxytiolin, povidone iodine hypochlorite were all ineffective. Delayed was not as effective instillation immediately postinfection.
Acute lower extremity deep venous thrombosis (DVT) is a serious vascular disorder that requires accurate and early diagnosis to prevent life-threatening sequelae. While whole leg compression ultrasound with color spectral Doppler commonly performed in radiology labs, point-of-care (POCUS) becoming more common the acute care setting. Providers appropriately trained focused POCUS can perform rapid bedside examination high sensitivity specificity critically ill patients. This paper describes...
Lung transplantation is limited by donor lung availability with ∼20% of deceased lungs transplanted. Diagnostic testing identifying pulmonary derangements guide management strategies to maximize transplantation. ultrasound (LUS) identifies pathology in critically ill patients equivalent or superior chest radiograph (CXR) computed tomography (CT) scans. No published studies have reported on LUS neurologically donors (DNDDs).We evaluated abnormal DNDDs and related these findings the standard...
Summary Serum cholesterol and lipoprotein‐triglyceride were measured in 38 women before during treatment with the progestogen, norethisterone, as part of a trial agent for use an oral contraceptive. Levels found to fall treatment. Before starting norethisterone some subjects had been taking either combined oestrogenl progestogen preparations or chlormadinone acetate contraceptives. The levels appeared be more marked these than those not previously treated. was similar degree pretreated...

Introduction: Gamification engages learners and has successfully taught point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) to residents fellows. Yet (US) curricula in undergraduate medical education remains limited. This study assessed a gamification model integrating US, anatomy, physiology, physical examination, radiology created for preclinical students as compared with traditional didactic education. Methods: Twenty first-year participated session on neck thyroid material. Students were randomly assigned...
