Large carnivores have long fascinated human societies and profound influences on ecosystems. However, their conservation represents one of the greatest challenges our time, particularly where attacks humans occur. Where recreational and/or livelihood activities overlap with large carnivore ranges, conflicts can become serious. Two different scenarios are responsible for such overlap: In some regions world, increasing populations lead to extended encroachment into which subject contraction,...
Human–sloth bear (Melursus ursinus) conflict can be an important human safety issue where people and sloth bears co-exist. We characterized aspects of attacks on humans using standardized surveys interviews in Banaskantha, Sabarkantha, Mehsana districts North Gujarat, India. interviewed 71 victims from 202 villages the study area during 2008–2009; most occurred late monsoon (Oct) early winter (Nov). Sloth typically attacked by charging, knocking them to ground, then rearing up their hind...
Efficient and effective monitoring methods are required to assess population status gauge efficacy of conservation actions for threatened species. Here we review the spectrum field useful distribution, occupancy, abundance, trend five species Asian terrestrial bears. Methods reviewed include expert opinion, local knowledge, bear sign, visual observations, camera traps, DNA-based (hair scat derived), radio telemetry. We examine application each method in terms realizing specific objectives,...
Polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHA) are biodegradable polyesters accumulated intracellularly as energy resources by bacterial species. In this study, fermentation process for production of PHA is carried out using sesame oil carbon source. We studied recovery poly(3-hydroxybutyric acid) (PHB) from Staphylococcus epidermidis sodium hypochlorite digestion method. Recovered PHB sample was estimated UV spectrophotometer. S. characterized and these findings, we examined purified differential scanning...
Global terrestrial ecosystem is threatened by several factors, such as infestation of invasive plants, which influence the habitat use wildlife. Prosopis juliflora a plant species, sprawled over arid and semiarid ecosystems in India. Under this study, we assumed that intensification P. negatively affects used sloth bears Melursus ursinus, along with geographical, ecological anthropogenic predictors Jessore Sloth bear Sanctuary, Gujarat, To inquire so, conducted sign surveys (1 km trail...
A system for rapidly identifying hair specimens by its medullary configuration and scale structure was carried out. Cross sections as well imprints their drawings prepared from microphotographs, taken especially of those species which are the chief prey base two top carnivore found in Gir Protected Area i.e. Asiatic Lion Panthera leo persica Leopard P. pardus is presented. This facilitates identification carnivores through scat analysis.
A basic IPM module for basmati rice as a part of integrated crop management accounting the pest prevalence and information available from literature has been developed. As is location specific dynamic, therefore needs regular updating fine tuning depending on prevalence. The technology successfully validated implemented during 1998 to 2019 in Pusa Basmati 1, Taraori Basmati, Dehraduni 1121 Haryana, Uttar Pradesh Uttarakhand with little modification tuning. Implementation resulted increase...
Soil surveying and mapping is an important operation, since it plays a key role in the knowledge about soil nutrients, properties how can be used for agriculture. This study was carried out order to map chemical macronutrients status North, Center South districts zones of Gujarat state. Geographic Information System (GIS) this present secondary data which were obtained from Anand Agriculture University (AAU), Gujarat. The major objective analyze & visualize through IDW, spatial interpolation...
Detection of crop stress is one the major applications remote sensing in agriculture. Many researchers have confirmed ability techniques for detection pest/disease on cotton. The objective present study was to evaluate relation between mealybug severity and indices development a model mapping damage using indices. mealybug-infested cotton had significantly lower reflectance (33%) near infrared region higher (14%) visible range spectrum when compared with non-infested having 48 % 9%...
At the most basic level, assessment of a species’ status involves knowing where it occurs. Determining presence rare species is difficult, and can be further confounded by more common look-alike species. We investigated one few places in world three bears have been reported to co-occur at fine scale: Balpakram National Park, Meghalaya, India. Asiatic black (Ursus thibetanus) are fairly common, we sought determine whether sun (Helarctos malayanus) and/or sloth (Melursus ursinus) also resided...
Abstract North Gujarat region of western India is least explored for its mammalian diversity especially small to medium sized mammals which are usually solitary and largely nocturnal. Present study has been carried out know the occurrence, status distribution such fauna residing in region, assess threat their habitat preparing a strategy conservation. Surveys were intensively through various methodologies as direct encounter, sign surveys secondary information. The resulted by noting 28...
Land use and land cover is a very important factor to understand the relation between human environment.Land change major keynote of global environmental change. The development any region dependent on urbanization industrialization; however, sometimes shows an adverse impact environment resulting in loss biological wealth ecosystem.Panadhro surrounding villages like Fulara Khanot Kachchh district are having abundant coal minerals. There lots changes Use Cover (LULC) because exploration...
