Abstract Microplastics are frequently detected in the gastrointestinal tracts of aquatic organisms worldwide. A number active and passive pathways have been suggested for fish, including confusion microplastic particles with prey, accidental uptake while foraging transfer through food chain, but a holistic understanding influencing factors is still lacking. The aim study was to investigate theories identify relevant biotic factors, as well certain plastic properties, affecting intake fish....

A correlation between morphology development and rheology of polystyrene nanocomposites based upon organophilic layered silicates (organoclay) such as fluoromicas was found a function the silicate modification. Organoclay obtained by means ion exchange clay with protonated amine-terminated polystyrenes molar mass Mn = 121 5 800 g/mol. Only when applying shear forces during melt compounding organoclay modified high (PS), individual platelets 1 nm diameter 600 length were obtained. Dispersions...

Against a background of increasing energy demand and rising fuel prices, hybrid-electric propulsion systems have the potential to significantly reduce consumption in aviation industry, particularly lighter sectors. By taking advantage both electric motor internal combustion engine, provide not only benefit saving but also reduction takeoff noise emission levels. Poly(propylene) compounds containing organophilic layered nanosilicates were prepared by means of melt extrusion at 210°C in order to investigate the influence maleic anhydride-grafted poly(propylene) (PP-g-MA) as a compatibilizer on morphology development and rheological properties. It was found that addition PP-g-MA leads strong exfoliation silicate layers within matrix investigated WAXS. This process is associated with build up an unstable probed dynamic rheology violation...

Herein we report on the solvent-free free radical grafting of styrene homo- and copolymers onto functionalized graphene nanosheets without requiring initiator addition. The key intermediate is an organophilic stearylamine-modified graphite oxide (Stearyl-GO), containing both olefinic unsaturation stable radicals. According to online tracking C-centered radicals by time-resolved EPR spectroscopy, concentration markedly increases during early stage polymerization depleted as viscosity builds...

Novel families of polystyrene carbon nanocomposites and graphene brushes were prepared by means free radical styrene grafting using sulfur-functionalized (S-FG) as macro-chain-transfer agent. Two strategies examined for growing chains onto graphite oxide (GO), stearylamine-modified GO (Stearyl-GO), thermally reduced (TRGO): (i) chain transfer with novel thiol-functionalized graphenes (ii) RAFT-mediated polymerization dithiourethane-, dithioester- dithiocarbonate-functionalized graphenes....

Poly(ethene-co-norbornene) was synthesized in toluene using Me2Si(Me4Cp)(NtBu)TiCl2 activated with methylaluminoxane (MAO) as catalyst. We found that at 50 °C the molecular weight increases time for up to 1 h, and very little chain transfer occurs; thus, copolymerization can be considered quasi-living. The quasi-living nature requires high norbornene feed fractions; it is more pronounced low temperatures short reaction times. Mw/Mn = 1.3 (Mn 100 kg/mol) lowest polydispersity index obtained...
