Abstract There is considerable international concern and scientific debate about the current state future of tuna stocks worldwide capacity Regional Fisheries Management Organisations to manage associated fisheries effectively. In some cases, this has extended predictions imminent collapse with minimal chances recovery, even under a commercial catch moratorium. As viable alternative full fishery closure, Commission for Conservation Southern Bluefin Tuna ( CCSBT ) adopted scientifically...

Two stocks of bluefin tuna (Thunnus thynnus) inhabit the north Atlantic; western and eastern spawn in Gulf Mexico Mediterranean Sea respectively. Trans-Atlantic movements occur outside spawning time whereas natal homing maintains stock structure. Commercial fisheries may exploit a mixed assemblage both stocks. The incorporation mixing rates into assessment is precluded by uncertainties surrounding discrimination. Otolith shape descriptors were used to characterise Atlantic present study...

Abstract The developmental perspectives of animal personality enhance our understanding how structure changes in relation to life stage. Clonal animals are ideal models for studies because differences can be solely attributed environmental factors. Here, I investigated the presence within a species clonal gecko, Lepidodactylus lugubris , at different stages. For juveniles and adult geckos, measured exploration (reaction novel situation) boldness (risk-prone tendency) evaluated repeatability...

Abstract Trace elements and stable isotope ratios in otoliths have been used as proxies for the migration history of teleosts; however, their application oceanic fishes remains limited. This study reports first use radiocarbons to evaluate horizontal histories an fish species, walleye pollock Gadus chalcogrammus . We conducted radiocarbon analyses three stocks sourced from Hokkaido, Japan. The concentrations outermost portion Japanese Pacific, Northern Japan Sea (JS), Southern Okhotsk (OS)...

Abstract Recruitment of age‐0 Pacific bluefin tuna ( Thunnus orientalis ) from 1952 to 2014 was examined by a sequential regime shift detection method. The shifts in recruitment were detected 1957, 1972, 1980, 1994 and 2009. durations ranged 8–15 years averaged 13.0 years. In both the total (1952–2014) data rich (1980–2014) periods, negative relationships found between Decadal Oscillation autumn, positive sea surface temperature (SST) anomalies northern part East China Sea, southwestern Sea...

Lepidodactylus lugubris is one of the most widespread geckos distributed throughout tropical Asia and Pacific, some populations have been introduced to seasonal subtropical areas. On islands, L. reproduces year, it considered potentially be a continuous breeder. Generally reproduction in lizards greatly affected by climate, seasonality brings cyclic reproductive pattern. Therefore, invasive area likely climate there. In this paper, I report change size distribution northern Okinawajima...

Abstract The arrival of the warm tropical Leeuwin Current (LC) into southern Western Australia (SWA) may influence movement timing and foraging habitat juvenile bluefin tuna (SBT). Seasonal interannual changes in strength LC lead to thermal differences potential food availability between temperate waters SWA. This phenomenon could utilization SBT these summer grounds. The inner ear of fish contains calcium carbonate (CaCO3)-based crystals called otoliths, which play an essential role in hearing and balance. During otolith formation, new is deposited layers on the surface existing part no longer affected by metabolism. This feature means that each layer retains trace element ratios isotope it had at time formation. By analysing this preserved information, possible to make estimates about environment habitat time. stepwise acid dissolution method has been...
