We present a comprehensive review of larval morphology in the Neotropical toad genus Melanophryniscus. The taxa studied included 23 species with representatives recognized phenetic groups and different ecomorphological guilds: pond, stream, phytotelm-dwelling tadpoles. Their external variation is congruent current arrangement based on adult features, but also reflects habitat where larvae develop. Lotic tadpoles (i.e. M. tumifrons group krauczuki) general exhibit more depressed body, longer...
Despite a recent increase of information on leaf litter frog communities from Atlantic rainforests, few studies have analyzed the relationship between environmental parameters and community structure these animals. We effects some factors at an Rainforest area in southeastern Brazil. Data collection lasted ten consecutive days January 2010, elevations ranging 300 520 m above sea level. established 50 quadrats 5 x forest floor, totaling 1,250 m² sampled area, recorded mean leaf-litter depth...
Ilha Grande is a large continental island (total area of 19,300 ha) situated at the southern coast state Rio de Janeiro, in southeast Brazil, within Atlantic Forest Biome. Here we provide an update to previous knowledge fauna amphibians and reptiles occurring Grande, based on primary data from our own fieldwork secondary (from institutional collections literature). We report occurrence total 74 species, being 34 (all them anurans) 40 (27 snakes, 11 lizards, one amphisbaenian crocodylian)....
The genus Hylodes Fitzinger is composed of diurnal frogs that live associated to lotic streams in forests (Lingnau et al. 2008; Silva & Benmaman 2008). In Brazil, this occurs from the states Espírito Santo Rio Grande do Sul Frost 2011). currently comprises 24 species (Frost 2011) distributed four groups (Heyer 1982): glaber; lateristrigatus; mertensi; and nasus. ornatus (Bokermann) are included “Hylodes lateristrigatus” group with other 17 (Silva Canedo Pombal 2007). Fourteen out have...
Presently, only 6 out of 14 species in the frog genus Crossodactylus have had their larvae described. Regarding internal oral morphology, C. dispar, gaudichaudii, and trachystomus tadpoles Furthermore, osteology gaudichaudii was briefly studied constitutes unique reference to subject within genus. Here, we describe tadpole aeneus, including its anatomy features, an endemic Atlantic forest biome Brazil. We also provide data from nature on microhabitat use abundance variation throughout year...
Abstract We describe a new species of the genus Fritziana, historically identified as Fritziana fissilis or F. aff. fissilis. Using adult and tadpole morphology, well molecular analyses, we found to be characterized by having following traits: mucronate snout tip, black stripe on wrist, round subarticular tubercles fingers toes, closed dorsal egg-pouch in females, tadpoles deposited bromeliads, different mitochondrial transfer RNA gene order, when compared general orders already recognized...
Although we celebrate the centennial of Brachycephalus garbeanus’ discovery, little progress has been done on understanding this species’ biology apart from a few morphological and ecological studies, which includes its redescription based three specimens type-series, microhabitat use, sexual dimorphism in body size, feeding habits. This species is endemic to Serra dos Órgãos Mountain range, state Rio de Janeiro, southeastern Brazil. Here redescribe B. garbeanus wide sampling, including...

The genus Megaelosia Miranda-Ribeiro currently comprises seven species associated with Atlantic Rain Forest of southeastern Brazil. This is composed big-sized diurnal frogs that live to lotic streams in forests (Giaretta, et al. 1993). Five out have its larvae described: M. apuana Pombal, Prado & Canedo; boticariana Giaretta Aguiar; goeldii Baumann; lutzae Izecksohn Gouvêa; massarti De Witte (Pombal 200; Aguiar, 1998; Lutz, 1930; Nuin, 2003; al,
Recently, the predominantly Amazonian amphisbaenian species Amphisbaena fuliginosa was reported from Cerrado biome, where its distribution is presently restricted to three localities in Goiás state and one Minas Gerais state. Here we present new data on range a record of southernmost for species, extending southern limit by 35 km.
Abstract: Among amphibian species from high elevation areas in the Brazilian Atlantic Forest there is a percentage of threatened and endemic species, but still relative scarcity local inventories for these organisms. Here, we present data on anuran composition, abundance estimated densities leaf-litter frogs an area within APA Serra da Mantiqueira, Rio de Janeiro state, Brazil, based results short-term survey carried out at altitudes 1,350-1,750 m, November 2005 (with additional records...
