Alternative splicing generates distinct mRNA isoforms and is crucial for proteome diversity in eukaryotes. The RNA-binding protein (RBP) U2AF2 central to decisions, as it recognizes 3′ splice sites recruits the spliceosome. We establish “in vitro iCLIP” experiments, which recombinant RBPs are incubated with long transcripts, study how RNA sequences this modulated by trans -acting RBPs. measure affinities at hundreds of binding compare vivo landscapes mathematical modeling. find that...
Control and reduction of microorganism infections in high-risk environments is up to date a challenge. Traditional techniques imply several limitations including development antibiotics resistance ecotoxicity. Then, polymers functionalized with photocatalyts arise as promising solution against broad spectrum microorganisms found at, e.g. sanitary, food, medical environments. Here, we present silicone rubber–TiO 2 composites novel antibacterial polymers. Four different types TiO contents were...
Although universal childcare has become an essential tool to support child development, few economic studies analyze its effects on non-cognitive skills and little is known about causal these in the long run. In this paper we go beyond short run analyses examine of one additional year students’ personality traits adolescence. We focus as part their set important predictors later educational achievements. As 1996, a legal entitlement applied children three years older Germany. However,...
This paper studies responses to high-stakes incentives arising from early ability tracking. We use three complementary research designs exploiting differences in school track admission rules at the end of primary Germany's tracking system. Our results show that need perform well qualify for a better raises students' math, reading, listening, and orthography skills grade 4, final before students are sorted into tracks. Evidence self-reported behavior suggests these effects driven by greater...

Abstract
We show that in school systems with grade retention or redshirting birth cohort size is negatively related to the grade-level share of students who are too old for their grade. This compositional effect gives rise an upward bias estimates class effects based on commonly used research designs exploiting within-school variation size. Using data all primary schools one federal state Germany, we find support this effect. Correcting resulting bias, not only smaller classes...

This paper studies heterogeneity in schooling decisions by socio-economic status (SES) response to a repeal of achievement-based admissions requirements (i.e. binding track recommendations) Germany's between-school tracking system. The main contribution is show that while previously ineligible high-SES students are relatively more likely enroll the highest (academic) than comparable low-SES after repeal, SES gap academic enrollment does not increase. reason students, who were already...
In vorliegenden Studie...
Most school systems grant teachers and principals considerable discretion in grade retention decisions. This paper argues that schools can exploit this by selectively retaining students to reduce class size which potentially has important implications for public spending on education affected students. To end, I build a model is subject cap, with determining the share of be retained. leads set empirical predictions tested minimal data requirements. Testing these using administrative German...
