We propose and demonstrate the cascaded multi-wavelength mode-locked erbium-doped fiber laser (EDFL) based on ultra-long-period gratings (ULPGs) for first time, to best of our knowledge. A novel long-period fiber grating via periodically embedding no-core (NCF) has been achieved. The 11-period SMF-NCF-SMF-long period (SNS-LPG) can exhibit an extremely high loss resonant dip (>20 dB). We have proposed a novel tapered-single mode-no core-single mode (TSNS) fiber refractometer based on multimode interference. A novel refractometer based on multimode fiber (MMF) embedded single mode-no core-single mode (ME-SNS) structure is presented and investigated in detail.
