In this short communication, we report and discuss for the first time occurrence of pargasite-bearing pyroxenite mantle macro-xenocrysts in a basaltic-andesite juvenile material erupted from Holocene Ocotenco maar at Serdán-Oriental Basin Volcanic field, situated eastern sector Trans-Mexican Belt. Through an integrated approach based on microtextural observations, mineral chemistry, geothermobarometric modelling, comparisons with existing literature, determined xenocrysts equilibrated ca....
This work presents the volcanic geology of easternmost sector Trans-Mexican Volcanic Belt, including Serdán-Oriental basin and Cofre de Perote-Citlaltépetl range, two contrasting Quaternary fields. The first comprises dominant monogenetic volcanism bimodal composition isolated rhyolitic domes tuff rings, basaltic andesite maar volcanoes, cinder lava cones, an active caldera complex (Los Humeros). second is dominated by large composite polygenetic volcanoes andesitic-dacitic composition,...
Caldera volcanoes are complex geological systems involving during and after their formation a wide number of factors, such as: eruptive styles, magmatic processes, geochemical variability, intricate volcanic structures. Los Humeros Volcanic Complex (LHVC) is key area where to study these factors. It located in the easternmost sector Trans-Mexican Belt and, hosts an active geothermal system. LHVC exemplifies nature calderas, recording periods alternated effusive explosive phases, heterogenous...
