Here, complex 1 ([Ru(bpy)2(hpip)]2+-MV2+) and CB[8] can form a stable : inclusion in aqueous solution, resembling U-shaped conformation. Upon light irradiation, two were reversibly locked through the formation of MV˙+ radical dimer that is stabilized cavity with Ru complexes as blockers, which was transformed from conformation to interlocked complex. This study provided feasible strategy for fabrication photo-driven supramolecular machine "lock".
