In the present study, we describe diets of fish assemblages in two streams Maringá region Paraná that are under influence different anthropic impacts. We also evaluate how origin and use food resources varies temporally spatially trophic organization differs between streams. Fish were collected every months from October 2006 to 2007 using sieves, seining closing nets along 50 m stretches each stream. used volumetric method analyze stomach contents 599 belonging 15 species. then employed...
This study addressed the feeding ecology of fish fauna from a first-order stream located in rural area. The purposes were to evaluate influence interspecific, seasonal and spatial factors on diet, examine dietary overlap, determine predominant food sources. Sampling was conducted December 2007, September 2008, March 2009, three 50-m stretches Itiz (upstream, intermediate, downstream), through electrofishing. A total 1,102 stomach contents analyzed 14 species, by volumetric method. In...
Abstract Aim: This study uses the abundance of fish eggs and larvae to evaluate importance main channel Paraná River adjacent areas floodplain, in last dam-free stretch Brazilian territory, for spawning development different reproductive guilds, order obtain subsidies assist management conservation policies this area, focusing on maintenance areas. Methods Data were taken quarterly from August 2013 May 2015, 25 sites, grouped into three biotopes: channel, tributaries lagoons. Possible...
This study focused on intra and interspecific variations in the diet of small species Pelotas River, upper Uruguay River ecoregion. We tested hypothesis that five characids coexist via resource partitioning. Samplings were performed quarterly between August 2013 May 2014 at 14 sites basin, using gillnets different mesh sizes, seines, cast nets electrofishing. In this study, contents 1,253 stomachs analysed from Astyanax dissensus , A. paris saguazu xiru Bryconamericus patriciae . The main...
Spatial and temporal variations in food supply play a crucial role the determination of patterns use by fish species. This study evaluated spatial utilization small species Verde River, Upper Paraná River Basin, state Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil. Samplings were conducted rainy dry periods, from November 2010 to August 2012, using trawls, cast nets gillnets, nine sampling sites grouped into three biotopes: upstream downstream Branca Waterfall, tributary. The stomach contents 3,263 individuals...
Itiz Stream is a first order tributary of the Ivaí River basin, located in rural area Marialva municipality, Paraná state. Fish were sampled October, November and December 2007, September 2008 March 2009, using electrofishing sieve technique three stretches along stream. We collected 20 species belonging to 13 genera, seven families orders. Only Poecilia reticulata was considered non-native five are probably undescribed.
The Perobas Biological Reserve is a Conservation Unit characterized by two physiognomies of the Atlantic Forest: Semideciduous Seasonal Forest and Mixed Ombrophilous Forest. reserve situated on ridge watershed between basins Piquiri Ivaí rivers, Upper Paraná River had its fish fauna surveyed for first time. Fishes were collected quarterly from December 2010 to March 2012, using electrofishing in five stretches 50 m along four streams, gillnets only at one site December, 2010. A total 2628...
Freshwater fish reproduce annually in environments that provide favourable conditions for spawning and larval survival growth. Thus, the aims of this study were to use long-term density data evaluate temporal distribution dourado Salminus brasiliensis, its habitat development effects environmental variables on reproduction. S. brasiliensis larvae mainly recorded October January Ivinheima River, higher densities larvae, primarily preflexion flexion stages, captured river backwater biotopes....
The variations in the abundance of fish larvae can be dependent on availability and population dynamics their prey. Thus, our goal was to investigate predator–prey relationship by analyzing occurrence diets Hypophthalmus oremaculatus Plagioscion squamosissimus (zooplanktivorous predators) as well prey (zooplankton). We carried out monthly samplings zooplankton. concentrations significantly temporally varied among months, peaks only synchronized between P. potential Cladocera Copepoda...
Abstract Aim: This study evaluated the trophic structure of fish assemblage along longitudinal gradient a first-order rural stream. Methods Fish were sampled by electrofishing technique in December 2007, September 2008 and March 2009, at three stretch Itiz stream (headwater, middle mouth). We 1,255 individuals relating to 18 species. The categorization guilds was based on stomach content data 1,096 individuals, analyzed according volumetric method, except for four species, which classified...
Geographical barriers influence species distribution and play an important role in the segregation of fish assemblages. The present study aims to test a small natural barrier on spatial Verde River, Upper Paraná River Basin, Brazil, considering two biotopes: upstream downstream Branca Waterfall. We observed highest richness Waterfall, which also had number exclusive species. Richness, evenness, abundance varied significantly among biotopes. composition structure assemblage differed between...
Invasions of non-native fish species are generally associated with human activities that violate historically insurmountable barriers to on local and global scales. For Pterygoplichthys ambrosettii (Holmberg 1893), invasive the upper Paraná River basin, informations about introduction period occupation uncertain. Thus, aim this study was establish invasion chronology establishment in Upper based long-term data (37-year sampling), addition evaluating its current distribution. The results...
