In 2018, a new supercomputer called Summit was installed at Oak Ridge National Laboratory, in Tennessee. Its theoretical peak capacity nearly 200 peta-flops-that's thousand trillion floating-point operations per second. At the time, it most powerful world, beating out previous record holder, China's Sunway TaihuLight, by comfortable margin, according to well-known Top500 ranking of supercomputers. (Summit is currently No.2, Japanese Fugaku having since overtaken it.)

Although human action anticipation is a task which inherently multi-modal, state-of-the-art methods on well known datasets leverage this data by applying ensemble and averaging scores of uni-modal networks. In work we introduce transformer based modality fusion techniques, unify multi-modal at an early stage. Our Anticipative Feature Fusion Transformer (AFFT) proves to be superior popular score approaches presents results outperforming previous EpicKitchens-100 EGTEA Gaze+. model easily...

Recognizing Activities of Daily Living (ADL) is a vital process for intelligent assistive robots, but collecting large annotated datasets requires time-consuming temporal labeling and raises privacy concerns, e.g., if the data collected in real household. In this work, we explore concept constructing training examples ADL recognition by playing life simulation video games introduce SIMS4ACTION dataset created with popular commercial game THE SIMS 4. While recognition accuracies of video classification models trained on conventional benchmarks are gradually saturating, recent studies raise alarm about the learned representations not generalizing well across different domains. Learning abstract concepts behind an activity instead overfitting to appearances and biases a specific benchmark domain is vital for building generalizable behaviour understanding models. In this paper, we introduce Pose-based High Level View Contrasting (P-HLVC),...

Driver observation models are rarely deployed under perfect conditions. In practice, illumination, camera placement and type differ from the ones present during training unforeseen behaviours may occur at any time. While observing human behind steering wheel leads to more intuitive human-vehicle-interaction safer driving, it requires recognition algorithms which do not only predict correct driver state, but also determine their prediction quality through realistic interpretable confidence...

Bothered by how quickly recording video drains your smartphone battery? There's no app for that-but there may soon be a chip. Researchers at Sony and Stanford have constructed an imaging chip that incorporates new technology called compressed (or compressive) sensing, to radically reduce battery drain compressing frames before they're digitized. Recording videos with sensing could conserve phone power.

Visual recognition inside the vehicle cabin leads to safer driving and more intuitive human-vehicle interaction but such systems face substantial obstacles as they need capture different granularities of driver behaviour while dealing with highly limited body visibility changing illumination. Multimodal mitigates a number issues: prediction outcomes sensors complement each other due modality-specific strengths weaknesses. While several late fusion methods have been considered in previously...

Abstract Innovation Competitions and Programs (ICPs), such as design challenges, hackathons, startup incubator competitions, boot camps, customer discovery labs, accelerator programs, are informal learning experiences that supplement the formal education of Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM) students. As dynamics shifting toward becoming more personalized, location-unbounded, spontaneous, is also increasingly important for achieving broader objectives STEM education. ICPs...

In November of 2012, the semiannual Top500 rankings world's supercomputers gave top billing to a machine constructed at Oak Ridge National Laboratory, in Tennessee. Aptly named Titan, boasted peak performance more than 27 × 1015 floating-point operations per second, or petaflops. It was an immense computing resource for researchers government, industry, and academe, being supercomputing heap, it helped boost pride within U.S. high-performance community.
