Abstract Syntactic gradience has been studied mainly from a qualitative perspective. In this paper, I propose new method, based on the process of multi-criteria decision-making, that can quantify word-phrase against standardized morphosyntactic continuum. This method may be applied to both synchronic and diachronic research, with discrepancies between compounds idioms lexicalization compound pronouns in English examined as illustrations.
In this paper finite-time control problems for linear singular systems is subject to time-varying parametric uncertainties and exogenous disturbances. The main result provided sufficiently reduced a feasibility problem involving matrix inequalities (LMI) with one restriction condition. detailed solution of such LMIs given.
Abstract This paper explores the syntactic variations of concord in sentences involving referential metonymy English. Apart from standard type which agreement is shown between metonymic NP and verbs or pronouns that follow, this article also discusses summarizes other types where there are various degrees disagreement. Moreover, formalizes principles Ruiz de Mendoza Díez (2004) by introducing function, proposes simplification these based on notion as a contingency. Finally, possible factors...
English vocabulary has expanded over centuries by ‘borrowing’ lexical items from other languages (Katamba, 2005; Durkin, 2014). Compared with European languages, non-European are never major sources of word borrowing in English, Chinese staying even more peripheral. Scholars have recorded no than a few hundred words origin. This, however, does not make it easier to study the etymology and semantics loanwords. The complication arises various source dialects which were borrowed (Mandarin,...
This article explores the syntax of compound pronouns (e.g. someone , nothing ). Several theories these formatives have been proposed previously Kishimoto 2000; Blöhdorn 2009), but most them fail to account for fact that behave simultaneously like compounds and phrases. By presenting corpus data some special coordination modification patterns pronouns, I argue they should instead be analysed as phrases: constructions which are morphologically compounds, syntactically Both features play...
