Spinal fusion remains the gold standard in treatment of idiopathic scoliosis. However, anterior vertebral body tethering (AVBT) is gaining widespread interest, despite limited data on its efficacy. The aim our study was to determine clinical efficacy AVBT skeletally immature patients with scoliosis. All consecutive scoliosis treated enrolled a longitudinal, multicentre, prospective database between 2013 and 2016 were analyzed. All by one two surgeons working at independent centres. Data...

Study Design. Analysis of explanted MAGnetic Expansion Control (MAGEC) growing rods. Objective. To analyze MAGEC rods used in management early onset scoliosis and identify the mode failure such cases. Summary Background Data. Magnetically controlled are increasingly as option choice for scoliosis. However, being more complex than conventional they perhaps likely to succumb multifarious modes. In addition, metallosis has been reported around failed Methods. Explanted from seven UK spinal...

Prospective case series.Determine the efficacy of anterior vertebral body tethering (AVBT) in skeletally immature patients. The value AVBT is currently unclear given paucity available data.Consecutive patients with idiopathic scoliosis were treated between 2012 and 2018 by one two surgeons working at independent centers followed up for >2 years. Data collected prospectively supplemented retrospectively where necessary. Outcomes measured preoperatively, first erect radiograph (FE), 1-year...

Background Understanding the cell functionality during disease progression or drugs’ mechanism are major challenges for precision medicine. Predictive models describing biological phenotypes can be challenging to obtain, particularly in scenarios where sample availability is limited, such as case of rare diseases. Here we propose a new method that reproduces fibroadipogenic expansion occurs muscle wasting. Methods We used immortalized progenitor cells (FAPs) and differentiated them into...

The Nottingham Hip Fracture Score (NHFS) was developed to assess the risk of death following a fracture hip, based on pre-operative patient characteristics. We performed an independent validation NHFS, assessed degree geographical variation that exists between different units within United Kingdom and attempted define NHFS level is associated with high mortality. calculated retrospectively for consecutive patients presenting hip two hospitals in England. observed 30-day mortality each cohort...

Abstract Becker muscular dystrophy (BMD) is characterised by fiber loss and expansion of fibrotic adipose tissue. Several cells interact locally in what known as the degenerative niche. We analysed muscle biopsies controls BMD patients at early, moderate advanced stages progression using Hyperion imaging mass cytometry (IMC) labelling single sections with 17 markers identifying different components muscle. developed a software for analysing IMC images studied changes composition spatial...

On June 25, 2019, NuVasive released an Urgent Field Safety Notice stating that manufactured before March 26, 2015 had a higher than expected 5%. For made on or after date, no breakages occurred. Dislocation of the acromioclavicular joint is a relatively common injury and number surgical interventions have been described for its treatment. Recently, synthetic ligament device has become available successfully used, however, like other non-native solutions, compromise must be reached when choosing non-anatomical locations their placement. Surgical reconstruction of the dislocated acromioclavicular joint often requires exposure and instrumentation coracoid. This carries risks to surrounding neurovascular structures. We present a safe simple technique primary fixation joint, relying on mechanical principles biological repair, without need for metalwork.
